Happy to be drinking this as it seems a rarer style for Canadian breweries. The body is a nice clear dark red but also had a lot of floating sediment. Yes, clear with sediment. I should also mention that my bottle is 9.25%ABV. From the lovely lace-leaving tan head comes notes of chocolate, toasted walnuts, vanilla, almonds, a light wood and smokey whiskey aroma as well. It’s got a nice slick body to it and is well balanced, a tad on the sweet side and great for the style. It’s a little boozy but such a trait I find welcome in this style. The finish leaves a nice dry smokey flavour. A nice treat for those who enjoy the style.

How: Sample at Festival Brassicole de la Mauricie.

>>> A surprisingly thin Scotch Ale with a mild but weird acidic presence. Maybe a bad bottle, I will need to revisit.

+ Interesting smokey, bordeline salty, notes

The body is surprisingly thin for a Scotch Ale, not much sweetness or malt action

There’s a mild but weird acidic presence

Because of the thin body, there’s not much backbone to support the flavors and the beer seems unbalanced.

Flavors: Smokey, earthy/mineral, herbal, caramel (mild), acidic

500ml bottle. Murky mahogany with a frothy off-white head. Flavors are earth, peat, toffee, chocolate, licorice and molasses with fruity notes. Dry, harsh and chalky finish. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, oily texture.

500 ml bottle from flaveurs d’ici A: dark caramel, red fruits, light smokiness app: clear dark copper thick white head and great lacing. T/p: full body with moderate long bitter finish soft to moderate carbonation . O: good. Enjoyed the malt bill. Initially the smokiness struck me but after a few sip it feels more blended. Pretty balanced. I usually prefer my scotch ale on the sweet side.

Corps moyen a élevé. Carbonation moyenne. Une bonne scotch ale a boire lentement.
