Imperial Balck IPA, not bad. With 85 IBU and 10% alc, you dont really taste them. Caramel/chocolate/coffee taste and a bit of floral hops, its a decent black IPA but not sure about the Imperial part ;-) Not one of the best black IPA from Quebec, but a good one nonetheless. I will need to try it again.

Special barrel aged version from a bottle at the bar : Black opaque color. Slightly creamy brown 1 finger head, lasting around 5-10 minutes, with moderate legs. Flavors of cheese, coffee, oysters, cherries, smoked salmon, chocolate, dark berries, plums, yeasty, oak, herbal spices. Pleasant leathery and earthy feel, sugary but lots of bitter spices. Smooth creamy medium body with moderate carbonation. Strong and long finish with lingering burnt barley and dark malts, thick dark fruity feel, and a nice woody barrel aged sensation. Its a black IPA, and a very good one! Delicious, balanced, while bold. Although well intensified, and quite fresh for the high alcohol. Overall excellent quality craft.

On tap at Brewskey, Montreal. An almost black beer, with a dense, dark beige head on top. The aroma is roasted and chocolatey, nice but a tad one tracked. Its smooth and roasted on the palate, full to medium bodied and with flavors of roasted malts and a load of dark chocolate. Roasted malts and lots of dark chocolate in the finish. A bit one dimensional this one, nice though. 150611

The CDA/Black IPA is already a style that treads a fine line between a hoppier Stout and an IPA thats been painted black. This delicious tasting beer with its tawny crown falls into a "hoppy Stout" category, ensconces itself tightly and takes you along for a high ABV ride. Its altogether to smooth to fall into IPA territory for me yet the hop presence keeps it out of Stout domain as well. Rich chocolate and coffee pair seamlessly with piney, herbal hops whose marriage is a graceful one. While nothing particularly protrudes from this ale, nothing in turn offends, leaving the imbiber a glassful of onyx scrumptiousness fitting into no category.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, citrus grape and alcohol. Taste is meidum sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, chocolate, caramel, citrus, grape and licorice finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

En fût à L'Autre Œil. Noire opaque. Fin collet beige. Riche. Forte amertume. Chaleur d'alcool.

500ml bottle from Peluso, thanks Ben for buying. Aroma: coffee, chocolate, caramel, floral. App: pitch black with medium frothy beige head. Taste and palate: smooth... Surprisingly smooth, full body, medium sweetness with short medium bitter finish. Overall: enjoyed the aroma but it was an aroma of a Stout, not a Black IPA, its missing some fruitiness. Bottle was fresh so its not related to that of its not hoppy enough. Really easy to drink and enjoyed it but I think its not well balanced since in my opinion this is no imperial black IPA...and this rating is based on an IBIPA.

Trs bonne bire!
