Mondial 2013. Hoppy black beer, lacy. Good drinkability. More like a black IPA than a porter.

2013-05-31. Black body with a modest tan head. 4+ Aroma of dry roasty malt, sweeter dark malt undertones. Flavour is relatively dry, dusty malt, light roast. Much drier than expected from a Baltic porter. Average bodied palate is a bit light , modest carbonation. Bit light for the style. Enjoyable but not a great example of a Baltic porter. Pretty decent. On tap at Mondial de la Biere 2013, Montreal

500 ml bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have mild roasted malt, dark fruit, a subtle smoked character, ash, chocolate, mild bitterness, very little sweetness, more dry, decent.

4oz sample @ Churchkey, DC. dark brown, mocha head outstanding fruit aroma, lots of caramel malts, licorice-toffee? flavors, getting a load of dark fruits along with a mild presence of licorice, possible anise, whatever it is, the mouthfeel is unique and flavorful. finish is dry, hinting at some herbal elements with notes of coffee.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2017 My Bottom Line:
Wealthy raisins and dark chocolate establish themselves atop the roasted maltiness, while licorice and molasses add a dash of sweetness to this plump Baltic Porter.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the blackness with brown edges.
-This has world-class potential written all over it.
-The nose is a beautiful prelude to what is to come in the flavor profile.
-The finish has a touch of tobacco earthiness.
-All malt flavors are united for the greater good, and continue into the finish. They work perfectly with the restaurant’s "côtes levées du diable".
-The lovable, round body is one of its finest features.
-Carbonation is prickly, making the round body feel lighter.
-Roasted malts and leafy hops offer just enough bitterness in the finish. This is balanced, like most TDDs.
-Like most of their beers, this one is of the same intensity from nose to flavor profile to finish.

Bottle and on tap at the brewpub.

Bottle shared by tmoney99. Dark fruit, herbal character, bit of roast, ash, more spicy than I’d like. Bit of smoke? Kind of soft, moderate carbonation. Medium to bigger body, mild chewiness. Dark brown color, kind of clear. Ring of tan head. Some bits of lace. Moderate-plus bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Mildly watery feel, but overall, nice flavor, very different, interesting stuff. Good for 5oz but more may have dragged for me.

on tap at bateau de nuit, qc. clear very dark brown with a nice creamy beige head, good retention and lacing. dark roasted malts, burnt hazelnuts, maple, smoke, resin and umami, some sweetness. moderate carbonation, medium body - oily and almost sticky, bold resinous and bitter coffee finish. much enjoyed this bold baltic porter.

(Rating #1294)
