2012-12-31. Black body with a nice foamy brown head. Odd aroma, dry lightly dusty dark malt, very light roast, light alcohol character. 7+ Flavour is interesting, light funky vaguely Belgian character to dark malt, dark fruit and mild alcohol. Less roast than in the aroma. 7+ Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate is very effervescent, softly so. Decent, bit unusual I wasn’t entirely sure what to make of it. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark chocolate, bourbon, oak, dark fruit, hints of caramel, some vanilla, just a touch thin. Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Very dark pour, super-lively tan head. Aroma is full of hard roast, bitter chocolate, some licorice, with a touch of funk. On the palate, the funk becomes more evident, not dominating, but certainly assertive. Nowhere near the proportion in Bellwood’s Donkey Venom for example, but it is definitely here, and whether it is an infection or not, it made the drinking experience highly pleasurable. Panning through other top-raters, there are a couple of ratings that describe a light sourness, so I’m not the only one. Interesting and cool. A lightly soured BA impy!
