COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Northwest style Hefeweizen is light-bodied, pale amber in color, fruity and refreshing, with a malty wheat character. The flavor is light and crisp with a touch of malt sweetness. Whistling Pig Wheat is unfiltered, with the classic cloudy appearance which characterizes the best Hefeweizens brewed in the Great Pacific Northwest. Whistle Pigs are marmots, small furry critters who live in the high country all around Leavenworth, WA, with especially high concentrations in nearby Whistling Pig Meadow.

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 10-27-12. Clean, slightly floral, fresh aroma features a lemon scent. The smell is not as powerful as I would prefer and misses the bubblegum, banana, and clove elements of a real hefeweizen. Pours an effervescent gold with a moderate amount of light beige, nearly white head. I consumed the bottle via three small pours. The first two were clear. The last was a hazy, orangish color that looked like apricot nectar. Grassy, weak, and light taste features lemon. Light body. Watery. Slightly undercarbonated in the palate. This is definitely an American Wheat Ale, not a Hefeweizen, and, as such, it is a disappointment.

Can from Total Wine & More, McLean. Hazy amber body with medium head. Nose is floral, hops, spices. Taste is similar of hops, fruits, malts. Sweet bursts. Decent.

12oz bottle (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Weizen glass at 44. Color is a cloudy yellow with a touch of orange. Carbonation is good giving it a thin white head. Aroma is yeast, toffee and corn. It has a lighter medium body with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is a little light with some wheat, corn and yeast backed by a nice bitterness. After taste is more wheat and the bitterness holds for just a bit. Overall its an easy drinking brew but just seems to be lacking flavor.

Can. Pour is orangy hinted light hazy brown. No head. Rather rude up front for a hefe, seems to have a few wheat ale attributes floating around in there. Yes, does not hide the alky well, seems much more than 6%. Could use some carbonation, comes across almost flat like lager left over night. What ever, needs some manners and civility. Could not be in the same styles as Erdinger Weissbier, Schneider Weisse Original, vyturys White - Baltas Hefeweizen or East End Monkey Boy. Well, near the finish, I do get some watery banana in there. Yea, sure can use some co2 sizzle.

Too clear for a Hefe. Decent banana aroma. Taste was just sweet and slightly rubbery. Pass.

Pours a hazy lighter golden color with white head. Wheat, yeast, and some light fruits on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes with wheat and light fruit.

The beer pours with almost no head and, unless Im sick and dont know it, no aroma. That said, its smooth and easy to take big sips of, but its not special and its not memorable. A good beer to have a few of, but not worth the price I paid here in Pennsylvania for it and pretty weak overall.

Can from Capital Market. Hazy golden brown in color. Lightly sweet and fruity nose. Maybe a hint of yeast character, if that. Bready and a little fruity up front. A little sweetness to go along with a touch of yeast. Sippable beer. Not a really good German hefe.

Draft pint pour at Razzals. Two pints actually. I dont think this beer deserves the hate it gets. I find this to be very American however in the hefe world. Doesnt have the heavy yeast or banana flavor, but the beer still tastes good. I say if it tastes good, it is good. Pours a thick looking peach color with a patchy head and lacing. Nice lemon aroma. Light beer with a ton of wheat and lemon flavor. Ive heard of this being served with lemon, but its got plenty without. Very refreshing. I say, nicely done.
