UPDATED: NOV 8, 2007 Pours with a creamy, foamy head and looks rich. Suspended yeast signals the potentially nourishing qualities of the beer. Aroma is complex, spicy. Cinammon is most pronounced, but so is some currant, clove, cardamom, and chicory. These aromas carry over into the full-flavored abbey dubbel. Its smooth and balanced in spite of the spiciness. The Floreffe dubbel leaves a strange bittery aftertaste of orange peel that is not offensive but not particularly pleasant either. The back of the throat senses sharp spice like ginger sensation. This is fairly highly carbonated beer too, which serves to usher the flavors into the mouth. A little salty too. Big yet mild.

Molto buona! Tra le migliori dubbel assaggiate finora.

[Sampled in 2004.] Huge head and dark brown color. Sweet ad not so much bitterness as some others. Fruit, roast and alcohol and mediumbodied with a nice sweet finish.

Brussels-07. Very dark brown almost black colour with one finger of tan head. Aromas of caramel, plums, malt, chocolate and raisins. Sweet flavour with notes of caramel, fruit, roasty malts and finishing with plums. Medium body, low carbonation with a short finish. Nice abbey Dubbel.

This beer pours a dark brown with a large tan head. The nose is typical for a sweet Belgian abbey beer--sugary and somewhat flowery--and the mouthfeel is silky and somewhat syrupy, though it isnt overbearing. The cane sugar with which this beer is brewed really comes forward to provide a taste reminiscent of sugard-coated, roasted nuts on top of the light hop floweriness and creamy-sweet malts. This is a very good Belgian, but like most of them (except Orval) it suffers from weak hops and too much sugary sweetness.

A gift from my son. The color is a nice dark brown with a thick beige head. The taste is sweet and spicy not tart. The aroma is a nice sweet smell. A good Abbey Dubbel, but not the best.

Bottle, 33 cl at friends home. Redbrown color with offwhite head. Aroma syrupy, a bit spicy, yeast. Medium body. Taste = roasted malts, a bit spicy, caramel sweet finish is fruity. Not bad.

Hazy chestnut brown with an eggshell head that collapses into little puffy islands in my DeKonnink glass. Mostly yeasy and sugary aroma. Brown bread, brown sugar, figs, pears, and an appealing mustiness are all very nice, but the mouthfeel is very thin and watery, causing everything to fall flat. Still, in the end not bad.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep red-brown colour with a short beige head. Fair lacing. Sweet aroma of toasted caramel and malt with dark fuits and some bitterness sticking to the noce. Flavour of dark fruits and soft spices with toasted malt, caramel and some brown sugar along with a nice soft toasty malty bitterness and slight chocolate ending with some pleasant alcohol. Very good brew indeed!
