Glinting golden amber color with a thin head of offwhite head of soapy foam. Concentrated caramel malt backbone with some sweet plum. A bit oily slick on the mouthfeel. 355ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, orangey, deep golden colour with small, frothy, diminishing, white head. Bready malty, fruity and peppery spicy yeasty aroma, lots of marzipan, hints of honey and apricot. Taste is sweet, bready malty, fruity, alcoholic and minimally peppery spicy yeasty, notes of marzipan, honey, hints of apricot. Oily texture, full body, lasting and warming finish.

Flaska på Thunder Bay Grille Pewaukee. Orangefärgad med vitt skum. Tung doft med bourbon, torkad frukt och kola. Lite spretig med kola och torkad frukt.

A great tripel is like a flavor/texture starburst; this one is like a stomp through a swamp. First of all, it looks scary: it’s murky, brown, sewage-like, without enough carbonation to at least lend it a transcendent bit of zest. On the palate an initial inviting citrusy element quickly succumbs to outright bitterness. An earthy, vegetal bitterness that overwhelms. I’ve had quite a few bland/dull tripels - - it’s a tough style to excel in. This one is not bland/dull - - it’s an unbalanced murky mess. Maybe it was on the shelf at the Total Wine in Vegas for a couple years - - I can only hope that’s the problem - - because this borders on undrinkable. beer-yum (1759) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - NOV 20, 2016

Rich muddied brown coloured body with an amber glow and a very thick tan head. Aroma of honey, malt, toffee, caramel and a good deal of oak and vanilla and a ton of alcohol still noticeable. Full-bodied; Flavours of cereal, malt, oak, vanilla, honey, toffee, spices, coriander seed and a lot of alcohol to finish. Aftertaste is rich and very full-bodied with a ton of malt, toffee, caramel and especially alcohol warmth around. Overall, a nice beer that has a LOT to it, especially the texture with alcohol and depth, but this is more of a quad than a tripel, still, nice to try here in Hawaii, but this is a bad place to try this one - especially in the summer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Manama Market in Haleiwa, O’ahu, Hawaii on 21-August-2016 for US$9,49 sampled in my hotel room here in Waikiki a few hours later on 21-August-2016. I see complaints about this beer. I don’t know. I really like it. It’s easy drinking. I’ve had every type of belgian style tripel around, my favs are the Trappistes Rochefort 6,8 and 10. The problem is those are overly expensive for 11.2 ounce beers. Hell, those beers (like the 10) are around 7$ a bottle.
This one is 6.50$ usd in my area (southern california) and it’s really enjoyable. People say the alcohol is present, I don’t really sense that. What I get is a smooth drinking beer that gets nice as it warms up a bit. It’s got a tad of sweetness, but it’s not overwhelming. It’s got some tiny smoke to it, maybe some currant and vanilla and I don’t know.
It’s just damn good. Not sure what people complain about.
