COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Asylum is in the style of a Belgian Tripel. It has a beautiful golden color. Its relatively light body is deceiving for a beer of its character. It has a sweet and spicy, complex fruity aroma and flavor derived from our distinct Belgian yeast strain. Asylum finishes with a subtle, warming character to help you relax on any night. Asylum is an exceptionally smooth Belgian-style brew. Drinking great beer brings the world together. Vrede op aarde (Peace on earth).

Clear copper gold with a dense one-finger head and very nice lace. Rich Belgian yeast aroma with graham cracker, banana, pepper, lemon and bandaids. Taste is mostly sweetness and alcohol, with citrus, nuts, and a touch of oatmeal. Medium body, lively carbonation, sticky mouthfeel and a lingering sense of alcohol in the finish.

A great tripel is like a flavor/texture starburst; this one is like a stomp through a swamp. First of all, it looks scary: its murky, brown, sewage-like, without enough carbonation to at least lend it a transcendent bit of zest. On the palate an initial inviting citrusy element quickly succumbs to outright bitterness. An earthy, vegetal bitterness that overwhelms. Ive had quite a few bland/dull tripels - - its a tough style to excel in. This one is not bland/dull - - its an unbalanced murky mess. Maybe it was on the shelf at the Total Wine in Vegas for a couple years - - I can only hope thats the problem - - because this borders on undrinkable.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2016 Restrained funky aroma in a golden amber pour. Huge malt body belies the style - but is eminently drinkable. Way too strong to enjoy as many as one would want though.

Rich muddied brown coloured body with an amber glow and a very thick tan head. Aroma of honey, malt, toffee, caramel and a good deal of oak and vanilla and a ton of alcohol still noticeable. Full-bodied; Flavours of cereal, malt, oak, vanilla, honey, toffee, spices, coriander seed and a lot of alcohol to finish. Aftertaste is rich and very full-bodied with a ton of malt, toffee, caramel and especially alcohol warmth around. Overall, a nice beer that has a LOT to it, especially the texture with alcohol and depth, but this is more of a quad than a tripel, still, nice to try here in Hawaii, but this is a bad place to try this one - especially in the summer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Manama Market in Haleiwa, Oahu, Hawaii on 21-August-2016 for US$9,49 sampled in my hotel room here in Waikiki a few hours later on 21-August-2016.

Bottle shared by Joes. Hazy orange color, average sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, candy sugar, brown sugar. Meh. Body and carbonation werent bad though.

I see complaints about this beer. I dont know. I really like it. Its easy drinking. Ive had every type of belgian style tripel around, my favs are the Trappistes Rochefort 6,8 and 10. The problem is those are overly expensive for 11.2 ounce beers. Hell, those beers (like the 10) are around 7$ a bottle. This one is 6.50$ usd in my area (southern california) and its really enjoyable. People say the alcohol is present, I dont really sense that. What I get is a smooth drinking beer that gets nice as it warms up a bit. Its got a tad of sweetness, but its not overwhelming. Its got some tiny smoke to it, maybe some currant and vanilla and I dont know. Its just damn good. Not sure what people complain about.

This is a great copy of a Belgian. Its close, but its no cigar. Yeasty nose - check. Golden color - check. Lace - negative. Breast palate - check. Layers in the taste - negative.

Decent representation of the style, though not quite the flavor and feel of a true Belgian. Pours a semi-clear light orange appearance. Complex flavor of sweet fruits, light malts and grain, and yeast. Need to sip this as the alcohol bite isnt hidden that well (hard to do at 11.8%). Ok to try, but there are better tripels out there.

De kleur is mooi donkerblond. Weinig schuim als je uitschenkt. Een lekker volle geur. De smaak is goes, maar ik zou toch maar de "Belgian style tripel ale" met een korrel zout nemen.

Bottle, SX Bottle Share, Chelmsford, Ale House, 5/3/2016 Please drink some more Westmalle trippel before you attempt to fully understand the style. Its well made but its more barely wine than tirpel. Easy-drinking for the abv. Clove and coriander. Just research the style more please!

a simply marvelous Tripel. beautiful morphing taste that includes perfume of melon and is flowery without being a pain in the ass. complex body it is slick ,juicy sweet with honey and finishes refreshing and dry. what else does one want?! nice aroma of fresh wheat and hardly any hint of alcohol in the flavor. the spice is there but fits in and doesnt dominate. I could go on about this one. I will not tell where I got it.
