Draft at Angel’s Trumpet. Pours an opaque dark brown with a small dark tan head that lasts. Aroma of rich, roasted malts, dark chocolate, earth, brown sugar, and a little bit of earthy hops. Very minor orange citrus. Same for the flavor. This leaned more roasty than hoppy. Light-medium bodied, with a roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. More black than IPA. Bottle shared with Parksy and Gripp. This was tasted alongside Strauss Boardwalk IPA, and both were great for possessing a nice balance between dark malts and hops, both had great flavours, and both had a nice PNW hop profile. This brew came across as slightly thinner in the body, and slightly less intense than Boardwalk, but they were pretty close. ration (2245) - Tampere, FINLAND - OCT 27, 2012
271012. Bottle at hotel in Arlington Texas. Pours black with a nice head. Aroma dry hops, chocolate, crystal malts. Chocolate malty taste. Not Bad. skmikeg (1826) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 7, 2012
22 oz bomber. Pours a dark brown-black with a one finger tan head and some lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, bakers coco, citrus, some coffee and some woody grass notes. Taste is similar with a lot of dry roasty notes, medium hop bitterness, grapefruit, some coffee notes, and some charred wood notes. Has a medium body with a slightly watery but sitll somewhat creamy mouthfeel and a dry, moderately bitter finish. overall, a pretty decent, drinkable Black IPA that maybe a little light in body. quiznoaz (309) - Arizona, USA - OCT 3, 2012
Earthy, chocolate aroma, with a hint of floral. Initial taste of chocolate and a bit of malt, which fades away to a light bitterness. The chocolate and malt would be mild for a stout, and the hoppiness mild for an IPA, but the amounts work nicely together (even though its more of one following the other than a blend of the two).

Brown, off white head. Lots of the dark roasted malt flavor with a good hops hit to it. Thinker (62) - Littleton, Colorado, USA - SEP 8, 2012
Black stout color with a tam head. Aroma is malty and sweet. Initially has a ipa flavor but then malt and barley begin to dominate. Great black ipa.

Bottle. Pours clear black with a medium, frothy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate, nutty and toasted caramel malt, pine, resin, and grapefruit hops with dark fruity esters. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness, well balanced with chocolate malt and dark fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation. mjg74 (3116) - La Mesa, California, USA - AUG 6, 2012
Bomber from Windy City. Roasty toasty nose. Some hoppiness as well. Fairly smooth mouthfeel. Decent hop character with a dominating roastiness. May be from the winter, so the hop character could have faded. Still pretty tasty. Sammer (1119) - Plano, Texas, USA - JUL 4, 2012
Taste is a nice blend of chocolate, hoppy bitterness, charred wood and malt. Nice.
