On tap at Mayor of Old Town in December. Pours a reddish-amber color with white head. Smoky, sausage, caramel, malty flavors. Interesting beer.

On tap and snifter served at Lunar Brewing Co. displaying a deep, ruby highlighted mahogany, with off white head foam that quickly reduced to a thin ring & film, but left some clingy, etched-like lacing on the glass. The aroma was smoked ham, sausage, and spice, in lieu of a visit to an old fashioned butcher shop. The flavor was similar, plus dark fruit notes, and a hint of leather. Medium bodied, softly carbonated, and a little syrup/stickiness to the texture, I found this much more approachable and mellow after it warmed for awhile.

1/29/13. On tap at Kickback?s. Amber red copper pour with a small khaki head that lasts but barely laces. Nice smoke character with a good dose of sweetness in the aroma. The flavor is along the same lines - obvious smoke, but not overwhelming in any way - with a nice caramel sweetness. In a way, it reminds me of sweet barbecue. I actually dig it!

Draft. Deep brown body with a frothy beige head, rapidly diminishing. Aroma of burnt wood, smoke, roasted malts alcohol, chocolate, earthiness. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Sweet malt malt flavor backs up peppery alcohol and bitter hops and acidic roasted malts. Light smoke, light ashiness thrown in. Nice that these are not overwhelming. A sweet doppelbock with roast and smoke.

At snap’s. Looks of deep burnt sugar with a dense creamy head that lingers. Nose is malty sweet with a breadyness and some smoke, wood, earthy, and either some fruity esters or hops-not sure. Flavor is sweet malts, breads, sugar, smoke, meats, light saltiness, and a noticeable sweet and somewhat fruity finish. Medium full body. Rich and smoky. Nice brew.

On tap. Clear chestnut with a small ring of bubbles. Aroma is toasted grain, mild smoked bacon and maple syrup. Tastes of toast, mild smoked meat, caramel, dry grass and a hint of clove. Medium body is almost chewy, but finishes slightly astringent and dry.

cubs (10635) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - DEC 22, 2012
Tap @ The Mayor of Old Town Fort Collins. Pours a dark red orange appearance with a creamy light brown head. Somewhat woody, smoky, light meat, chewy caramel aroma. Meaty smoky, burnt caramel malty, a bit herbal, toasty flavor.

kidmartinek (4999) - austin, Texas, USA - DEC 3, 2012
Reddish deep cloudy amber. Off-white ring head. Smoky aroma. Tastes like a rauchbeer. Pretty good taste and not too smoky. Its well balanced with the malt, but the plasticy body is a turn off.
