Comes out of the tap black - not sable, not very very very dark brown, but BLACK, black as Darth Vader’s armor, with a fine-bubbled tan head that leaves generous lacing. Smoky aroma has a strong note of quality roast coffee and hints of chocolate and licorice. Flavor has a roast malt core and notes of quality mocha and molasses with a hint of caramel, fairly sweet but not overly so. On tap at the rackhouse pub, 10oz pour. Dark black, pretty standard appearance for the style. The smell was very robust coffee grounds and beans, almost like when you are smelling different colognes and the salesperson gives you the little coffee can to clear your nasal palate, nice. Flavor is strong coffee but more like the grounds swimming at the bottom than good coffee. This was decent but the aroma was better than the taste by far.

Sweet coffee and chocolate aroma. Bittersweet coffee flavor with lingering flavors of cocoa nib and lemon. Very smooth. I like.

on tap at O’Niell’s. Pitch black with average-sized light brown head. Good lacing throughout the pint. Aroma is malty, with predominant notes of roasted chocolate malt and coffee. On draught at O’Neill’s In Albuquerque. Pours a deep opaque black with a lasting tan foamy head. Big coffee aroma. Medium body with great creamy mouthfeel. Rich dark malt flavor complemented by chocolate and coffee flavors. Minimal hops presence. Very nice.

On tap at HopCat. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark roasted malt and notes of peat and light caramel. Taste is somewhat acidic with heavy coffee, dark roasted malts, mild chocolate and a touch of sweet malt. The nose is wonderful. Like a chocolate mocha coffee. Taste is nice, very malty. Dry and long. It's too thin perhaps. And not especially complex. But otherwise a great beer.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is heavy on chocolate, with some coffee, caramel, and bread. Pretty potent. Chocolate stands out in the taste as well. Still contains coffee and caramel, with a chocolate aftertaste. A little sweet, but not overly so. Smooth and creamy when drinking. This one is very good.
