2013 & 2010 Gold Medal Winner at the Great American Beer Festival in the Foreign Stout category.

That time of year when the day seems to fade away. Drifting further into the darkness with each passing day. Volume 1 - Foreign Stout - Pours black with licorice, espresso bean, molasses, and black cardamom notes that give way to a feeling of self loathing, burnt opportunities and smoked relationships.

Tap at BeerTemple, 18th January 18. Pours black with a lovely tan bubbly head. Aroma is coffee, liquorice, cocoa. Taste is smokey, liquorice, chocolate, sweet and then a bitter finish. Great stuff.

12 oz. can. Scents of licorice and sweet Turkish coffee. Pours deep black with red underlying and a very big proper brown stout head. Sheets of lacing. Tastes dry and sweet with a chalky finish. Low carbonation. A little sweeter than I like but still good.

Clear dark purple brown to almost black beer, small irregular beige head, unstable, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: pretty sweet, dried fruits, caramel, spicy, some liquorish, lots of dark chocolate. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty roasted, bit sourish, bitter, sweet touch. Aftertaste: spicy, pretty roasted, coffee, some chocolate, very bitter hops, bit sourish, spicy touch.

12 oz can. Pours black with full tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, creamy licorice, sweet molasses and a hard to place spice. Flavors follow same with richer malts and dark dry coffee. Rich for a foreign stout.

dorain (714) - Berlin, GERMANY - DEC 26, 2017

Only drawback I find with this beer is a bit of sweetness that detracts from it overall. Coffee, dark chocolate, quite bitter on the finish. Oily and viscous body, no carbonation, light creamy tan head. Mild spice profile with cardamom noticable only after reading the label closely. Sweetness lingers in the aftertaste.

Can. Roasted malt aroma with notes of licorice, molasses and espresso. Pours black with half a finger of mocha brown head that has excellent retention and lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt and molasses flavors with a full body and smooth, roasty mouthfeel. Finishes smooth and dry with licorice and espresso flavors. Pretty nice stout.

sauvintipper (11) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 17, 2017
12oz canned 9/22/2017 8.5% ABV 30 IBU poured into sauvin with 2-finger light-brown head that fades to black after a couple minutes. Nose of licorice and dried fruit over smokey malts. Tastes of black licorice, burnt molasses and bitter hops, A medium-light body beer surprisingly bitter for such a low IBU. Buy again? No

Can. Pours a particularly thick black color with medium head. Roasted malt, coffee, molasses, vanilla, caramel, toffee. Heavy body. Creamy texture. Little chewy. Slight dry chalk. Slight smoke. Pretty good.
