thnx to dennoman for the tip on this beer and where to get is ( www.smaaknavigatie.nl)
dark brown ( not total black) beer with a ’good ’ taste( nothing great there ) . the thing i like about it is that you do get the peppery feeling in your troat when you drink it, but the pepper taste doesnt ruin it all. very niceley brewed, but a bottle is to much . you could drink one completeley, but you’ll probabley onley enjoy it till halfway... Very small beige-ochre head, fast gone over deep-brown beer. Chocolate, point of mocha, burnt and noisette or straciatella . caramelly peanut-filling for chocolate bars, and something artificial-aromatic, as fuel. Bitterish-sweet, with a very nice point of acidity. Finish is hot/alcoholic - roasted and fades away very slowly. Warming up, it gets hot finally revealing the pepper. Very heated (why isn’t the ABV on the label? How to expect the US finally adopting an adult attitude towards alcohol if the breweries themselves grovel and bow?). Slick, but rather undercarbonated. Long hot peppery aftertaste. Serious beverage, rather like it. For a pepper beer, very restrained. drostj (113) - Huntsville, Alabama, USA - AUG 1, 2012
Bottle. Dark black with a light head. Very rich smoky malted aroma. Rich full taste with a big dose of licorice and dark roasted malt; slightly sweet and a bit peppery. Full rich feel in the mouth. Very nice beer! armando629 (2456) - Budapest, HUNGARY - AUG 1, 2012
0,355 bottle, Csakajósör.thanatosti (1755) - Culemborg, NETHERLANDS - JUL 31, 2012
Dark brown with a steady tan head. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malts, pepper. The peppers a bit in the finish it is very nicely integrated overall. Medium to heavy body with a light pepper, bittersweet chocolate, and mild chalky finish. A nice surprise.
35,5 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Bert’s Bierhuis, Utrecht. Pours pitch black with virually no head. Aroma of roasted malts with some smokeyness. Taste is very porterlike, smoky roasted malts with hints of coffee and chocolate but very soon the pepper bite kicks in. It’s not scorching hot but certainly recognizable. the aftertaste is accentuated by the chilis and the roasted malts, and is long lasting. To be honest I bought this one for the label and the name reference to my old love Metallica but it stands on its own as a really good beer with character.

355 ml bottle.rosenbergh (11660) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUL 21, 2012
Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a minimal white head. Aroma of roasted malts, rye bread and ash. Flavour of roasted malts, bread, raisins and some tingling spiciness. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. Mouthfeel is thin, almost watery at first, but it then builds up to a bit heavier after the pepper kicks in. Finishes peppery with mellow caramel and some roastiness. At first this felt like a disappointment, but after a while this really got interesting.
355 ml bottle. Bottled 11/03/2011. From bierzwerg.de.mjs (7510) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUL 21, 2012
Aroma is roasted malt and cigarette ash. Flavour is roasted malt, sweetness, some warming peppers and sprinkle of hops. Aftertaste is a bit warming. The heat builds up. After all the pepperness is quite subtle.
(Bottle, 0.355 l - bottled on 3 Nov 2011, courtesy of rosenbergh, 20120721) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had roasted malts, smoke and black pepper. Palate was medium bodied and burning with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, liquorice, smoke, chilli, sweetness, chocolate and bitterness. Aftertaste had roastedness, chocolate and bitterness. The pepper was a bit too hidden but otherwise a decent beer. lelisboa (62) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - JUL 18, 2012
I got impressed with the average rate of this beer. I mean it seems a bit overrated to me. Then I started to wonder that I was expecting something but this. So the problem is mine.
Starting from the color: it is dark brown with ruby highlights. Lacing doesn’t exit after 2 minutes and neither head.
Aroma is complex but recognizable for smoked beers: chocolate, cocoa, smoke, liquorice, roasted malts, blablabla and pepper (my god).
Well, taste comes in different levels – as said above – then pepper at the end. It’s too strong the peppery flavor that keep in your mouth and this disliked me. It seem quite unbalanced for me.
And this is the problem of the beer for me. It’s not balanced, the pepper phase dries up all the rest.
I have tried smoke beers but this too inconsistent for me. I’ll never have it again if I can avoid. Good experiment but just for one time. sebletitje (10220) - Enghien, BELGIUM - JUL 5, 2012
33cl from Dranken Geers, Gent.
