Imagine Robert DeNiro sitting in your darkened parlour near the fire in his Louis Cyphre persona smoking a Tuscan cigar. This may be the beer with which to save (or lose) your soul. Dried fruit flavors entwined with smoky pepper and licorice embossed on roasty malt sweetness open on your tongue as the slow warmth of chilis creep up on your tongue and throat, finishing in an herbal smoke ring flourish.

Tasted 10/17/11. 12oz bottle. Pours rather opaque brown with a slight ruby highlight around the edges. Webbed ring of khaki head. Aromas of smoked malts, earthy and spicy. Cocoa dust and subtle dark berries. Nicely full bodied with the base malt comprising most of the flavor component. The pepper is trace, at least while still nicely chilled, and adds to the palate but doesnt overwhelm. Sweet candy roasted malts last the duration of the sip. Subtle smokey notes creep in along with a graham cracker flavor. A smooth and tasty sipper with just enough extra flavor to set it apart. The pepper, spice and smoke notes all contribute to the end result and help round out the palate flow. Well done!

Muy oscura, negra rojiza. Sin espuma. Mucho aroma, cacao y ahumada. Textura cremosa y suave. Potente sabor inicial que mezcla frutos secos y mucho chocolate. Pero pronto, alucinante. Pica!! Y mucho. Fuerte picor de cayena detras del paladar. Lo cual es sorprendente, y por su duracion, prolonga tambien el sabor de la cerveza. Especial. Merece probarse.

Old rating. Pours dark, with a slight red hue, and a small head. Aroma is smoked malts, with tobacco and coffee, as well as chocolate and liquorice. Full, creamy body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet malts, with coffee, syrup and liquorice, as well as very present notes of strong spices and chili. Maybe too strong, and indeed lingering throughout the finish.

Bottle at home from backlog notes. Pours dark brown in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, mild smokey character, black pepper, chili peppers, caramel, some earthy notes. Good, not great,

Clear dark brown, almost no head. Char, nuts, roasted chestnuts, licorice, a hint of smokiness and pepper. The complex taste mirrors the aroma, with burnt wood and light spicy finish with pepper. Great one!

Transfer from BA review on 5-31-12 - Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance Served a nice black color with a very thin tan head. The head faded over a shorter period of time to give a moderate amount of lacing. Smell The smell was heaviest of roasted malt with some good semi-sweet chocolate aromas. Mixed within these was a light peppery-spicy aroma. Taste The taste starts out with some sweeter malt flavors with a good brown bread and milk chocolate base. This taste however begins to transition more toward the middle of the taste where some bitterness of dark cocoa and a light pepper flavor come to the tongue. As the taste advances further however, the pepper is not so light and really gains strength. The taste finishes huge with a black pepper tingle. This was quite heavy in pepper but fantastic for the roasted flavors. It really gave a nice balance to the malty and bready malt but yet enhanced them all the same. It was a very nice finish to the taste. Mouthfeel A slightly above medium body with a medium level of carbonation. The body suited the malty yet peppery flavors well with the carbonation just enough to sooth the pepper, but yet allow the malty to be fully sensed. Overall This was one nice intriguing and enjoyable brew to drink. I usually dont care for really peppery beers, but this one was fantastic. If you get a chance definitely should give it a go.

Rated on 02-13-2011 on tap at 800 Degrees in Fort Wayne, IN. This draft beer has a very small head that quickly dissipates, black opaque body, and no lacing. The aroma is roasted, malt, licorice, chocolate, and a suggestion of pepper. The flavor is light pepper, roasted malt, licorice, chocolate, and has a modest dry finish. The mouthfeel is soft carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. This is a nice sipping beer with some hotness on the back of the tongue. It is not super peppery tasting and is worth trying.
