COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
That time of year when the light fades away. Brewed for the darkness, Fade to Black speaks in volumes. Welcome to Volume 4, the Beer pours pitch black with an off white head. Citrus (bergamot) and roast dominates the nose. Slight sweet malt gets pushed back by initial citrusy hops followed by powerful Italian Amaro, gentian and hop bitterness. Finishing with a pleasant duality of dry roasted malts and hop bitterness.

Poured black with a frothy tan head. Aroma of pine hops and some roast hops. Medium grainy body, flavour of pine and citrus with roasted malt, residual smokey flavour. Not particularly well balanced.

Draft. Pours a dark black with minimal head. Aroma of roasty chocolate with some earthy pine and citrus. Taste is about the same. Light bitter. Not a bad beer really, but not super special. A little thin for my taste.

12 oz bottle, Whole Foods Columbus. Yup, it’s a black beer... Medium beige head dissipates into medium ring; light lacing. Aroma dark coffee, roast, citrus, caramel, vanilla. Flavor is a total mess... Coffee and roast and... floral hops?! Medium body, heavier carbonation verging on frothy. Overly bitter. I can appreciate the chocolate-orange aroma but the hops are too heavy in the flavor to capture that aroma. Not my thing.

Bottle. Coffee/roasted barley malt and citrus peel aroma. Dark brown with moderate brown head. Sweet mocha malt and moderately bitter orange peel flavor. Pretty good.

On tap at Euclid Hall. Pour is pitch black with a big frothy brown head and great lacing. Pine, cocoa, graham crackers, grass, light vanilla, and chocolate in the aroma. Taste is roast, cocoa, dark fruits, nutmeg, grass, mint, pine, leather, and espresso with a medium bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Decent black IPA.

Bottle. I love the aroma of this beer. Floral, citrus, brunt toast. Taste is not so good, but really good after taste after you get past the bitterness. Deep dark color. Nice brown head.

Tap. Pours dark brown with thon, fizzy light beige head; short retention and spare lacing. Aroma is toasted and caramel malts, plums, figs, earthy and floral hops, and light dough. Flavor is ash, earthy hops (light bitterness), chocolate, roast malt, and some dark fruit esters. Medium body and low carbonation.
