Beautiful dark beer. I do t get much from the nose but I'm kind of smell-blind so don't trust my opinion. It's roasty, citrusy, hoppy and bitter. Even and complex. Delightful.

Bottle. Poured clear black color with a large frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt, chocolate, citrus hop with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a dry slick texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark bitter flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a very good complex beer.

On tap. Opaque chocolate with a thin disc of cream. Nose of oats, resin, rye, coffee, and caramel. Taste is dry cocoa, char, woody hops, dusty oats, and citrus. Medium-heavy body is smooth, dry and has light carbonation. blutt59 (6576) - Dallas, Texas, USA - DEC 27, 2012
bottled, dark brown red color with thin foam, aroma is chocolate cookie, flavor of oreos with some bitter hop note, smooth finish mcnealc31 (255) - Elida, Ohio, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Color certainly matches the title. Thin, creamy head floats atop a pitch black body. Very strong pine hops are noticed first. Charred wood comes through next, followed by sweet malt. Bitterness from the hops really linger. More than 60 IBUs almost make you pucker. Chocolate comes through as it warms.
The balance is what makes this so good. There is enough going on with the sweetness, bitterness, texture, and char to give it great flavor.

Not a powerful aroma, but hints at citrus. Head is light tan and faded quickly, but laces well. Flavor is more bitter than black’s tend to be, but it’s a good bitterness. dalekliz (924) - New Jersey, USA - DEC 22, 2012
On draft at the brewery. Pours a deep black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is toasty and crisp, with malt, chocolate, wood, and some bitter hops. Lingering toast. Decent. Ratman197 (15208) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - DEC 22, 2012
