Pint on tap. Opaque black with a cream on top. Nose is vanilla and chocolate with a touch of sour cream. Taste is the same with some light coffee and green herb. Medium bodied with a medium carbonation. Sweet start but a nice roasty finish mostly brings it back to balance. deyholla (11759) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 11, 2013
On tap at Tapwerks. Pours near black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice combination of sweet chocolate, dark grains and a real nice coffee note. Flavor is similar with the sweet chocolate and dark grains up front that are cut nicely with a great coffee note. Nice and smooth. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - NOV 8, 2013

7/26/2013: Left Hand Java Lava - Well, this one looks, smells, and tastes like coffee. Okay, there is a bit of dark chocolate and some roasted malt here and there, but it’s mostly just cold coffee. I like coffee well enough, but it’s fairly dominating and I get a bit of old, stale coffee from time to time. I guess that’s how it goes with coffee stouts... Overall, this is a pretty decent beer, but I’d like a bit more of the underlying beer showing through the coffee.
Draught (sample) at Party Town in Florence, KY. Rating #19 for this beer.
Dark black in color thin tan head. Super flavors and rich dark coffee and chocolate lingering. Super stout.

Tap at Rackhouse - dark brown pour - looks like cola - fizzy body, but zero head - nose is coffee heavy, but with a lot of sweetness surrounding it - smells of cream, sugar, I swear I even smell brown sugar and maple - fizzy in the mouth - some nice coffee notes, but the overall flavor is very sweet and sugary - kind of tastes like Cuban coffee - try that stuff sometime - they give you a tiny cup and black coffee that must have about 100 teaspoons of sugar in it - when done right, it can be tasty - this beer doesn’t taste like one done right - far too sweet, so the rich flavor of the coffee is swallowed up - meh. maley1 (1297) - Calgary, CANADA - FEB 13, 2013
Dark black pour with large fluffy tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and cocoa. Taste of huge coffee, chocolate, caramel. Higher carbonation giving it a crisp mouthfeel although creamy and slightly sweet, very good stout. onceblind (9867) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 22, 2013
Deep black with a thin khaki head. Roasty nose of toasted chocolate malts, a touch of caramel and toast. Sweet and creamy flavor with chocolate, truffle creme, and a gentle cafe-con-leche tone. Delightful, if a bit simplistic.
