Bottle from Midtown in Nashville. Pours a deep mahogany brown with a beige head. Aroma wet grains and brown sugar. Medium bodied and smooth on the palate. Average to mild carbonation. Flavor of tea, caramel, and peanut shells countered by a moderately spicy hops. Rye qualities shine on the dry finish, with a lingering coffee like bitterness and slight hints of cocoa. Lots of schwarzbier qualities in this one. Not bad. Not worth 11 bucks for the bomber though. lb4lb (2628) - Austin, Texas, USA - NOV 29, 2008
Bottle in trade from MSchae1017. Thanks man! Pours a dark brown color with a light beige head. Smell is lightly nutty, rye bread and coffee. Taste is dark, roasty rye, zesty and hoppy with a light coffee touch and perhaps the faintest touch of lager yeast. Rich, lightly syrupy body and refreshing carbonation. Perfect mouthfeel and lasting hoppiness and bitterness make this a really under rated beer in my book. Suttree (6537) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - NOV 29, 2008
Dark brown, thick beige head. Aroma is rye, of course, but also an odd white wine or saison aroma. flavor is more rye, then an unexpected but pleasent chocolate note and also some coffee. Really tasty stuff. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - NOV 27, 2008

Pours a deep garnet color with a moderately full, tan, creamy, mostly lasting head which leaves tight, but limited lace. Nose is faint; some dark rye husks, light bread crust, a bit of spiciness, and some chocolate in the background. Flavor is much more pronounced; lots of chocolate (bitter and some milk), nice coffee notes (although only lightly roasted), some roasted dark rye husks, toasted dark bread, and some spicy, smoky, nutty tones. Bitterness was more than moderate, but more from the coffee and rye notes than the hops. Palate is a surprise with a full, slightly syrupy, soft to lively, and drying; for a lager and a schwarzbier, quite full and syrupy instead of medium and crisp but intriguing. Finishes somewhat dry with lots of bitter chocolate, dry coffee, and spicy dark rye notes. Not what I would consider a Schwarzbier at all but definitely interesting with the fuller body and the great appearance. The spicy rye notes really complement the bitter chocolate and lightly roasted coffee notes. An interesting collaboration but the drinkability was limited.

On tap at the Oldsmar Tap House (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark brown to black with tan head. Little retention or lacing. Aroma is sweet, caramel, ripe dark fruit, oak and woody notes. Flavor is more malty, some coffee, toffee and woody notes, slightly bitter lingering finish. Generally medium to full body. AR (1002) - Georgia, USA - NOV 21, 2008
Some malty flavor to start. As the beer warms, the hops begin to step out and eventually dominate the palate. This is a full-bodied beer. Theis (15150) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - NOV 21, 2008

Bottle from Sams in D-town. Brown pour with a fizzy brown head. Earthy & roast aroma. Medium bodied. Roast, spice, and chocolate balls. Slightly metallic on the finish I was expecting a stronger offering, considering its price tag....
