Pours a deep mahogany with a nice khaki head. Aromas of some roasty toasty malts. coffee, and a bit of chocolate. Flavors are very much the same with the addition of rye and a supple amount of hops. Plate is pretty thin and could definitely take this brew to the next level. Palidor19 (3193) - Brandon, Florida, USA - OCT 15, 2008
aroma is a nice with flavors of some toasted malts and chocolate, heavy malts and forest hops. Mouthful is nice and solid, a pleasure to drink. nick76 (4402) - Tampa, Florida, USA - OCT 15, 2008
The aroma is good with toasted malt, chocolate, hops, and rye. The appearance is red-brown with a nice head. The flavor is astringent and somewhat like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall it’s a little disappointing when it comes to flavor.

I have been looking forward to trying this one. It proved to be a very nice and original brew.
Aroma is roasted, mocha, coffee and definite rye presence.
Taste, beer is thick, with rye aftertaste. Malty and a nice light bitter hoppy finish with good presence of rye.
There is nothing bad to say about this beer. Taste is very unique, the mix of dark roastiness and grilled coupled with rye and hops make this beer one unique and enjoyable brew. FlagstoneHill (215) - Erie, Colorado, USA - OCT 12, 2008

Sweet, carmelly, molasses aromas reminiscent of rye bread. little/no hop aroma
Dark brown with ruby hints, clear, tan head with good retention
Sweet, malty start with a good bitter bite and tangy/spicy rye notes throughout.
Heavy body, velvety, chewy, mouth coating. Medium carbonation
Big malty and a good bitter punch (but balanced more toward the malt).
UPDATED: JAN 8, 2009 22oz bottle-Pours dark brown with a tint of dark amber with a nice tight tan head. Aroma of coffee, malt, chocolate, and vanilla. Taste of the same with some sweetness and vanilla thrown in. This full bodied brew has a finish of slight bitterness. This is a nice tasty balanced beer. scoth (690) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - OCT 6, 2008
Bottle. Pours clear dark brown, almost black with a medium tan head. Strong coffee malt smell. Crisp, just a tiny bit thicker than a typical lager. Tastes of coffee, sweet, light caramel malts, and rye. The pine hoppy, bitter taste picks up at the end, and complements the rye. Ratman197 (15368) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - OCT 3, 2008
