Midnight Project One - Sometime at midnight in a city nobody can agree on, the idea for Left hand and Terrapin to brew a collaboration beer together was born. Terra-rye’zd is the first of a series of one-time releases between the two breweries. It is a beguiling black rye lager that will hold you hostage with its complex flavor, and make you want to ransom off your neighbors’ children for another bottle. The spice derived from the judicious amount of rye malt will bombard your pallet

Pours a deep mahogany with a nice khaki head. Aromas of some roasty toasty malts. coffee, and a bit of chocolate. Flavors are very much the same with the addition of rye and a supple amount of hops. Plate is pretty thin and could definitely take this brew to the next level.

aroma is a nice with flavors of some toasted malts and chocolate, heavy malts and forest hops. Mouthful is nice and solid, a pleasure to drink.

The aroma is good with toasted malt, chocolate, hops, and rye. The appearance is red-brown with a nice head. The flavor is astringent and somewhat like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall it’s a little disappointing when it comes to flavor.

Courtesy of Tony @ OTH. Pours black. I have been looking forward to trying this one. It proved to be a very nice and original brew. Aroma is roasted, mocha, coffee and definite rye presence. Taste, beer is thick, with rye aftertaste. Malty and a nice light bitter hoppy finish with good presence of rye. There is nothing bad to say about this beer. Taste is very unique, the mix of dark roastiness and grilled coupled with rye and hops make this beer one unique and enjoyable brew.

8 oat 08: on tap at the brewery
Sweet, carmelly, molasses aromas reminiscent of rye bread. little/no hop aroma
Dark brown with ruby hints, clear, tan head with good retention
Sweet, malty start with a good bitter bite and tangy/spicy rye notes throughout.
Heavy body, velvety, chewy, mouth coating. Medium carbonation
Big malty and a good bitter punch (but balanced more toward the malt).

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2009 22oz bottle-Pours dark brown with a tint of dark amber with a nice tight tan head. Aroma of coffee, malt, chocolate, and vanilla. Taste of the same with some sweetness and vanilla thrown in. This full bodied brew has a finish of slight bitterness. This is a nice tasty balanced beer.

Bottle. Pours clear dark brown, almost black with a medium tan head. Strong coffee malt smell. Crisp, just a tiny bit thicker than a typical lager. Tastes of coffee, sweet, light caramel malts, and rye. The pine hoppy, bitter taste picks up at the end, and complements the rye.

Ratman197 (15368) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - OCT 3, 2008
Bomber poured a clear dark brown with mahogany highlights and a small lasting tan head. Aromas of chocolate, spice, coffee, light fruittiness and a hiunt of vanilla.
