COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown with reddish highlights and a medium sized creamy beige head. The aroma is chocolate, dark fruits, roasted, with an overall sweetness. The flavor is again chocolate, a hint of coffee, roasted malt, and dark fruits. I kept hoping there would be more to chew on with this one. Overall a decent sweet stout.

UPDATED: MAY 18, 2012 On draft at The Federal, Durham. I was eyeballing my neighbor’s pint, which turned out to be this brew, and I’m glad I dialed up a couple of these. A very nice thick pour, with an impressive lasting head. Nice sweet malt aroma and a huge mouthfeel, with more roasted qualities than I expected. Nice stuff.

Draft. Mini tan head dissipates fairly soon. Peppy carbonation. I sense caramel. A decent stout.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown colour with a beige head. On the nose I got lots of sweet milk chocolate, roasted malts and coffee beans and some soy sauce. The flavour profile is round and quite sweet - not an aggresive sweetness, more like a sweetness that lingers in the background. Notes of coffee with milk, milk chocolate. A little thin on the mid-palate. The finish is a bit roasted, without any trace of sourness or bitterness. I liked this one!

355 ml bottle from a trade with Degarth. pours dark brown with red edges and not much head. aromas are coffee and chocolate but not big. i had to go searching for the aroma but once i found it i was pleased. flavours are some bitterness followed by milk chocolate. whats there is good i just wish the mouthfeel was fuller and the flavours were amped up. pretty good beer and very much apreciated as a bonus bottle! thx Degarth!

On tap at Flying Saucer. Has a dark brown with a medium tan head. The aroma is a strong roasted malt and chocolate. Good lacing on the glass. The taste is also roasted malt with a sweet chocolate finish. A very good sweet stout from Left Hand

Pours dark brown with a foamy, rather ugly brown head. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, some licorice. Flavor sweet and fairly chocolately with slight smokiness and pronounced lactose notes reminiscent of whipped cream. Palate is fairly thick with soft carbonation.
