This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefitssorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year round stout.

Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout Nitro pours black with a creamy, light tan head. As I swirl the beer, lacing catches the side of the glass, and only slowly slides back down. Lots of aromas mix together in this one. There are roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and smoked meat. The taste follows suit quite nicely. Milk Stout Nitro is very smooth and creamy. The body is somewhere between average and full, probably a bit closer to full. The carbonation feels quite low. Overall: I really cant ask for anything more in a milk stout. Smooth, creamy and full of great roasted flavor. Its almost like drinking alcoholic chocolate milk, but so much better. I highly recommend this!

The score is lower specifically because of my dislike of milk stouts. Poured a dark brown. Thick head. Very very smooth.

Bottle split with a non-RB beer friend. This is a great representation of a sweet milk stout. Theres enough roasted flavor from the malts to give it a bit of chocolate/cocoa bite, but its all dominated by the milk sugar, which leaves it moderately sweet and reasonably full bodied.

This is one of my favorite beers. Its like a beer milkshake. Creamy delicious. Make sure to pour hard for a nice frothy head.
