COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Nitro version - draught. Aroma - tiny bit sweet, chocolate and some vanilla, coffee with milk. Black color with beautiful characteristic for beers on nitro head. In taste bit sweet but very pleasant, some chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Extremly drinkable. It has quite full body. Goes down very quick, too quick. No doubt in that version (nitro and draught) one of the best milk stouts - in my opinion.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2018 The aroma is faintly of burnt sugar, but it’s pretty nonexistent. Taste is wonderful! A great stout with faint chocolate notes. Palate is a little thin for a stout but has decent body and is quite smooth.

Just boring. Nothing stands out. Dull flavor, dull aroma. Very disappointed. Budweiser has more flavor...

At Black Iron Burger, NYC. Pours black with medium beige head. Malty, chocolate, lactic, some coffee, quite sweet. Low carbonation, bit thin on body. Expected more really.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2017 Really enjoyed this nitro. Bitter at first but finished with a great chocolate milk flavor.

This is one of the worst beers I've ever had in my entire life. One of my local favorites is "Lancaster Brewing Milk Stout" and I made an incorrect assumption that this would be similar. It misleadingly pours like a Guinness, which I also like, and at first seems to taste similar. However, very quickly the beer turns into something horrible. Even though it tries to have a smooth texture, it finishes with an overpowering bitter "medicine-like" aftertaste. It tastes nothing like the aforementioned beer from Lancaster, which I would recommend and give the highest rating to. Every additional sip was a forced struggle and after taking 30 minutes to get through half a pint, I decided that it was worth my money not to be sickened anymore by this swill.

lactose, vanilla, sweet creamy, a hint of hoppy tartness, thick creamy head. a bit low on the body despite the thick head. I'd like to like it more but--for now--it's not a Fave, just a Solid

What's not to like here?: 1) visually stunning-- especially with the Nitro pour; 2) superb rich and full nose gets you excited for the first taste; 3) creamy, mocha, amazingly smooth deliciousness, with just a touch of sweetness; 4) 6% keeps it smooth and drinkable (I've never been able to discern any alcohol in this beer)...but gives it an extra kick over other non Imperial stouts; 5) almost a session beer!; 6) The Nitro version is the American craft-brew answer to Guinness, but far surpasses the Irish legend in taste and freshness. 7) A superb drinker for this time of year.
