4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
DATE: March, 12, 2017... OCCASION: Having celebrated Bob’s birthday, home for a relaxing afternoon... GLASSWARE: Samuel Smith tulip pint... "pouring hard," as the label demands, the immediate single-finger head cascades into an extra finger of light muddy brown, caking into a sponge of uniformity... the show isn’t long, but its effect is entertaining... its midnight black body allows nothing through... first sniff is lactic, lightly hopped, briny seasalted, cocoa beans, a bit of coffee bean, vanilla, and some trace earthiness... in all, awakens anticipation... at 6% ABV, warms slightly at the finish, but the the lingering effect is peat smoke and chocolate... a medium-bodied stout that displays texture through the mouth--sweetness to pique the tastebuds, but weighty on the back end to keep sips from piling up on themselves... thick, dense brown foam streaks the glass to its finish... creamy and nourishing, housing itself in the cheeks with sweetness... chocolate, coffee, sweet vanilla bean, and that lactic kick expectant in a milk stout makes for an equally sweet draw, one that is more nuanced than the more popular sweet or milk stouts out there... a great mid-afternoon sipper, hearty and flavorful, with holding power to spare... a nice (the best?) part of the mix pack I got from these brewers...
UPDATED: FEB 19, 2018 Bottle. Black liquid. Brown head. Taste is smooth with chocolate and some roasted notes. Smooth and a bit sweet. Cheers! joelfurrer (0) - - FEB 19, 2018 does not count
UPDATED: FEB 19, 2018 Very thick creamy head. Great chocolate-coffee-toffee flavor. If you have a friend who doesn’t like beer tell them you have a chocolate cream beer for them and give them this. colui72 (1186) - HONG KONG - FEB 13, 2018
Pours translucent dark brown, black once in the glass, medium beige head, spotty lacing. Roasted dark malts aroma, with some chocolate note. Tastes roasty, but with lactose sweetness, thin notes of chocolate and coffee to make up for the style. Medium bodied, low carbonation and long finish. Very nice stout without any hypes. UPDATED: JAN 26, 2018 Really nice, dark with creamy head. Sweet which I LOVE with some coffee and chocolate notes. Maybe a little caramel too. Really smooth goes down super easy.
Update: it’s been 6 hours and I’m still tasting it on my tongue. Very good. dj110 (28) - Lome, TOGO - JAN 10, 2018
Nitro version - draught. Aroma - tiny bit sweet, chocolate and some vanilla, coffee with milk. Black color with beautiful characteristic for beers on nitro head. In taste bit sweet but very pleasant, some chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Extremly drinkable. It has quite full body. Goes down very quick, too quick. No doubt in that version (nitro and draught) one of the best milk stouts - in my opinion. patandkendra (12) - Hebron, Indiana, USA - JAN 2, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 2, 2018 The aroma is faintly of burnt sugar, but it’s pretty nonexistent. Taste is wonderful! A great stout with faint chocolate notes. Palate is a little thin for a stout but has decent body and is quite smooth. Whiskywarrior (1) - Dedham, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 1, 2018 does not count
Just boring. Nothing stands out. Dull flavor, dull aroma. Very disappointed. Budweiser has more flavor... Iznogud (4991) - CROATIA - DEC 31, 2017
At Black Iron Burger, NYC. Pours black with medium beige head. Malty, chocolate, lactic, some coffee, quite sweet. Low carbonation, bit thin on body. Expected more really.
