Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

Pours a nice clear copper collor with a fine, quickly disappearing white head. Aroma is light with notes of citrus and malt. Decent mouthfeel leads to a fairly smooth and balanced taste. I note some nutty characteristics along with the malt and hops. A slightly sour finish. Not a bad beer.

The mysterious ESB style. Havent had many, never liked any. I bought this thinking it was a nitro, which may have improved things somewhat... but it isnt. Aroma of lemon and malt, bottle into nonic, no foam, low carbonation, kind of flat, dull orange look to it. Flavor is not exciting at all, bland, flat, weak... I do get the hard water thing. Have to say, based on limited experience, that I just dont care for this style of beer. Of course, if I was once again cycle touring in England and this was what was on at the local, Id have no trouble hoisting a few. Inoffensive, but far from exceptional.

Keg at Mother Kellys. It pours a clean golden color with a small white head. Aroma is pale bread, light oats, malts, grassy hops. Taste holds some more faint grassy hops and biscuity malts. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, meh

On tap at St. Augustines, pours a clear copper orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out bready malt, a touch of toasted caramel and light hop resins. Flavour is very restrained, with subtle notes of resinous hops and toasted malt. Solid balance, just missing oomph.

deze extra special bitter is wel voller van smaak dan de normale bitter , de middelmatige bitterheid haalt de zacht mout tonen wat op en geven lichte hints van caramel, biscuit en bloemige hop alle wel wat vaag

Nice clean bread and malt aroma with light sweet notes. Pours a pale clear reddish brown with a thin tan head of small bubbles. Tastes of mild hops and balanced bread malt notes. Nothing overpowering. Plenty of carbonation. Very drinkable.
