color was dark but more along the lines of deep red then an inky black that one expects with an imperial stout. tastes a bit of chocolate with a smokey sweetness. It was a bit thin and too carbonated for the style of beer.

October 05 bottle. Pale in comparison to most stouts, let alone imperial stouts, this brew pours dark dark red brown with a thin almost nonexistant light tan head. The nose is sweet with a good deal of milk chocolate, alcohol and light hints of dark fruit. The mouthfeel is creamy and full, yet this seems a bit watery for the style in terms of viscosity. This is a really sweet, nearly cloying beer. Big chocolate malt, big alcohol, liberal floral hops, and nice roast. Its tasty and flavorful, but a bit too sweet with too much alcohol for the relative paucity of complexity and thickness. Roasty bitterness and alcohol linger with slight hints of chocolate. I liked this beer, though wasnt blown away given the style

This beer has a dark color with some red, and a small creamy looking tan head. Deep chocolatey aroma (mmm!!)- a lot of malt but also a lot of alcohol, very sweet. The flavor is almost too sweet, and less chocolatey. Some vanilla, some grapes, and some smoky flavors. Smooth palate, maybe a little thin though.

22 oz. bottle @ Watercourse. Drank on 7/6/06. Dark brown, not black, but very dark brown. Little cloudy. Not really any red. Big 2" creamy tan head. Good lacing and a nice layer of foam sticks around. Aroma - not too strong. Little bit of chocolaty sweetness. Little bit of smokey / peaty aroma that I get in the flavor. Could be subdued because it is served too cold and in a frosty glass. Flavor - Little sharp bitterness up front, not too bitter though. Fairly smooth in the middle. Some smokey flavors in the finish, almost peaty, and a lingering sweetness on the tongue. Odd. I cant tell where the balance is because of the almost tart / puckering thing. Palate - sold medium. Maybe a tad light for the style. Good amt. of carb. Almost a tangy, puckering type effect in the swallow. Overall - a good beer, but not great as far as imperial stouts go. Little on the light side in color and palate and a little too much smokey / peaty wee-heavy type character and not enough coffee / bitter character I want in an imperial stout. Its good though, I like it. Almost definitely rated too cold.

This on really grew on me as it warmed up. It is black, but not opaque. Not much head to speak of. You get an initial sense of roasted malt with some delightful citrus tones before the first finish that is slightly bitter and hoppy. If you then pause and wait about ten seconds it tastes like youve just had a great cup of coffee. What an amazing finish. Great beer.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2006 Sneakily complex. Bobs and weaves well. Remarkably smooth for what it is, Id prefer more bitterness and less carmel which I never care for. Nice change of pace.

Bottle courtesy of BeerandBlues2. Served in a snifter. Pours dark brown with some deep burgundy highlights along the side. A smallish light tan head formed and quickly dissipated. The aroma is a blend of dark chocolate, light roast coffee, some pine from hops, and some subtle smoke and grape notes. Each drink starts with a sort of burning sensation on the tip of my tongue. That passed and gives way to a Hershys chocolate syrup, coffee, tobacco flavor. Pretty nice actually. A good bitter finish. A touch on the thin side, I think. Still, I really cant fault this one much. Very nice.

Poured a dark brown, almost black color with a small head that laced ok. The aroma was of chocolate and some coffee and this one definitely improved with temperature. The flavor was chocolate and coffee with some dark fruits underneath. Sweetness increased significantly with temperature, maybe too much. Nice touch of hops in the finish, resinous flavors most prominent. Mouthfeel wasnt creamy enough, but it was syrup-like to thin for the style. An enjoyable beer, but not top of its style.

This little skipper isnt quite as serious and roasty as some, but its quite nice. Bottled. Beer is a nearly opaque, dark brown color with a large, frothy, off-white, mostly and quickly diminishing head. The aroma is redolent of natural sugars. Malty with moderate notes of roasted grain, sweet chocolate, milky-roasty with a nice of mocha latt, genuine molasses; Hoppy with a moderate herbal note; Yeasty with a moderate note of dough; Miscellaneous notes of moderate-to-heavy rasin-spicy alcohol, moderate peach/bubble gum, light note of maple syrup. The flavor is moderately-to-heavily sweet, moderately bitter, lightly acidic, hot with a long, moderately bittersweet, lightly acidic, moderately warm, lingering finish. Gingerbread and molasses retros are nice. The body is full, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively.
