Almost black brew, hardly any light comes through this at all! Not a lot of head, but what there is lasts well! The aroma is sweet, somewhat malty with chcolate notes. The flavor is similar to the aroma, but more intense, with some dryness and a LOT of malty, coffee/molasses-like sweetness! It finishes clean, with no harsh aftertaste. Oh...the alcohol...it’s definitely in there, so be prepared! I like this one, and though it isn’t great, it’s well above average and I just might try it again! 1FastSTi (3360) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 26, 2006
10/19/2005 vintage. The beer pours to a transluscent ultra dark brown/black body with a lasting off-white head. So-so lacing. The aroma is intense semi-sweet chocolate chips, light coffee. The palate is stupendous. Creamy, nice texture, medium bodied. The flavor is semi-sweet chocolate chips, dark plums, dry black patent. Darn good brew. mkgrenwel (619) - North Shore, Massachusetts, USA - AUG 23, 2006
Sweet chocolate, coffee, caramel. Nice toasty malt. Very hoppy finish. Smells better than it tastes. Mostly just lots of toffee malt with hop spiciness, but not much else. The malt holds the hops off a bit, but there are clearly plenty of hops here. As much as I love a hoppy imperial stout, I really wish they let the malt flavors through more here. The flavors here are nice, but it lacks complexity and intensity.

(bottle) Deep black with almost no head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, earth. Flavor of chocolate, roast malts. Pretty good - wouldn’t go out of my way for it. RAYBOY01 (2011) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 15, 2006
Deep dark brown pour and tan head that faded quickly. Very rich chocolate/coffee nose. The flavor begins with the obvious richly roasted maltiness...caramel, brown sugar, molasses, etc. But then the chocolate and coffee flavors sweetly insinuate themselves over the tongue. Palate seems a bit thin for an imperial. But in general, I enjoyed this one very much. Thanks to El_Borracho for the sample.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2006 Bottled, thanks Slothgar! Dark brown pour, mostly opaque with a tan head, nose of chocolate and caramel, heavy toasted chocolate and coffee malts, but a bit too alcoholic in the finish. Not bad.
Rerate 7/18/06 - Head dissipated into a foamy film, nose of grapes and chocolate, quite dry -- almost offputtingly -- and finishes strongly alcoholic, almost like someone dropped a a shot of vodka into my beer. Lots of chocolate and maltiness. Nice color and mouthfeel on this one, great nose, balanced, but the dryness and alcoholic finish are unpleasant. Bottled (with thanks to Slothgar T.): Medium brown pour with a quickly dissipating head. Mild coffee on the nose, hints of same withj malts and chocolate on the palate. A bit alcohol-y on the finish. shigadeyo (3730) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 31, 2006
Very dark reddish brown color, light tan crown. Light carbonation. Toffee and caramel aroma. Very sweet, slightly creamy. Hits a bit strong at first, but has a nice chocolate finish with just a tinge of hop bitterness. A little watery, but very smooth over all. A good beer to sip slowly and enjoy for awhile. As it gets warmer, it becomes more like a strong ale as the alcohol creeps out more and more. 12 oz bottle, $2.65. Naven (1000) - Poway, California, USA - JUL 27, 2006
I agree with Jimbo.....much better than I thought. A littled underrated, in my opinion. Nice malty beverage with lots of coffee and chocolate features. Good stuff. jimbowood (1036) - Freeport, Georgia, USA - JUL 25, 2006
Bottle. This one was a suprise. Better than I thought it was gonna be. Nice malty backbone w/ an alcohol bite. Good, drinkable imp stout.
