Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

Flaske 330ml fra Vinmonopolet Tromsø - Langnes. Svart. Middels høyt skum med litt farge. Teppelacing. Lett sjokoladearoma. Silkemyk munnfølelse. Smaken sjokolade, lakris & litt frukt. Bli alkoholisk tørr etter hvert.

Dark chocolate, cacao, charred malts. Hazy, very dark brown, tiny, creamy, frothy, beige head. Medium sweet. More dark chocolate, cacao, dark roast coffee, dark roast malts, soft carbonation, full bodied. Nice. Keg at GABF17, Denver.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2017 Nitro version bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Redstone Liquors, Stoneham. Appearance is virtually opaque (slight red seen with light source directly behind), mild cascading nitro sparkle, 1/2-finger width light brown creamy head with good retention and minimal soapy lacing. Aroma is rich roasted malt, light coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is dark fruits, roasted malt, with one in the four pack with fairly strong alcohol (like rubbing alcohol), though this mellowed as it warmed and was not present in the others. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with silky smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, nice appearance and aroma and while the notable alcohol taste in the one was offputting, I'll give it a pass.

Bottle from World Market. Deep amber to black in color. Sweet anise nose. Anise and alcohol up front. Watery mouthfeel. Pretty bland for such a powerful impy. Too boozy as well.

From Jun 2006 Poured from 12oz bottle(bottled 08/10/05) a very dark brown with a smallish head of foam that dissipated slowly leaving just a fine layer. The smell is very sweet. I note a chocolate milky nose with caramel tones. The taste has strong notes of caramel and chocolate with plenty of roasted malt and.... a noticeable alcohol presence which, imho, brings down the drinkability factor quite a bit but still...it's a brew that's worth trying because it might hit your palate just right. Bottom line: A strong RIS that has big sweet and roasted flavours but doesn't hide the alcohol all that well. Try it and see what *you* think.

Had this one fridge aging for about 4 or 5 years. First beer in new apartment on Saturday morning. Vintage 2013 stamped on bottle. The aroma is dried figs, raisins, sherry. Viscous and full, warming alcohol, licorice, anise, dark fruits, piney hops, vanilla. Not barreled but bourbon - ish hints. Chocolate comes through on the far finish.

Gerbeer (4148) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 29, 2017
650 ml bottle. Pours black with moderate white head. Aromas of dark fruit, dark caramel, spicy chocolate. light pine, and soft roasted malts. Flavors of same with emphasis on sweet dark fruit. A soft sweet tasty stout with more emphasis on hops than many. Bordering on a Black IPA.
