Fantastic dark very full tasting beer. Hints of caramel, smokiness, raisin and even coco. This is my go-to beer when it is available. Powerful taste with lingering aftertaste, this beer is not for everyone, but those that like it, love it. Slight hop hints, stout, and porter flavors all swirled together. Great stuff.

Poured from 12oz bottle(bottled 08/10/05) a very dark brown with a smallish head of foam that dissipated slowly leaving just a fine layer.
The smell is very sweet. I note a chocolate milky nose with caramel tones.
The taste has strong notes of caramel and chocolate with plenty of roasted malt and.... a noticeable alcohol presence which, imho, brings down the drinkability factor quite a bit but still...it's a brew that's worth trying because it might hit your palate just right.
Bottom line: A strong RIS that has big sweet and roasted flavours but doesn't hide the alcohol all that well. Try it and see what *you* think. geologyguy (1651) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - OCT 13, 2017

Had this one fridge aging for about 4 or 5 years. First beer in new apartment on Saturday morning. Vintage 2013 stamped on bottle. The aroma is dried figs, raisins, sherry. Viscous and full, warming alcohol, licorice, anise, dark fruits, piney hops, vanilla. Not barreled but bourbon - ish hints. Chocolate comes through on the far finish.

650 ml bottle. Pours black with moderate white head. Aromas of dark fruit, dark caramel, spicy chocolate. light pine, and soft roasted malts. Flavors of same with emphasis on sweet dark fruit. A soft sweet tasty stout with more emphasis on hops than many. Bordering on a Black IPA. Korcz (3389) - Warsaw, POLAND - APR 17, 2017

Taste is coffee, dark chocolate, spicy hop notes, dried fruit. Metallic aftertaste. The nitro doesn’t work well for a beer this big, feels thin and flat on the palate. If this was carbed normally, I’d probably like it better. BrewTom (661) - - FEB 18, 2017
Nice brown head in pouring. Subtle coffee aroma. Smooth, creamy, chocolatey texture with spicy bitter finish. An excellent RIS.

Other than pouring completely flat, this is a fine beer. Thick but not too sweet, is has a nice sticky flavor. Good stuff. Andrew196 (1978) - Katy, Texas, USA - JAN 27, 2017
Bottle to snifter - pours black with a small but lingering beige head. Aroma is ripened dark fruit, vanilla and cocoa, toffee... Very inviting. Silky smooth down the hatch... Most of the fruits yielded to coffee, smoke, more cocoa but that raisin edge remains. Lingering bittersweet finish with an earthy tones. Well done. john44 (3331) - SW London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 12, 2017
Bottle. Bought Aug 2015; BBE Feb 2016; Drank Dec 2015 - Very Dark Brown / Black in colour. Average creamy beige head. Very Malty; very roasty malts, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, liquorice. Fruity; dark fruits, raisins, berries. Spicy notes. Hoppy; moderately hoppy; earthy hops. Smooth. Full bodied. Initially sweet roast coffee malty. Then increasingly salty and liquorice. Ending bitter dry roast almost burnt. Good. Liked this. Interesting and rather unusual Impy Stout! (2015-12-06)
