ClassyBeagle (376) - New Jersey, USA - DEC 1, 2013
Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass. A: Roasted malt, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, light molasses, and licorice notes. Big chocolate malts are the feature here. A: Pours deep brown with a tiny ring of bubbles surrounding the brim of the glass. T: Complex, but well balanced. Strong flavors of roasted malts and chocolate but nothing overpowering. Slightly more alcoholic than the nose lets on. P: Medium body and low carbonation, with a super smooth and creamy body. Maybe a little thin for the style and flavor. O: This is a solid beer, but nothing amazing. Fairly balanced flavors with decent complexity and quite smooth to sip on.

Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a official black color with a thin eggshell white to sly tan foamy head that dissipates spectacularly in a film of a messy lace. The aroma starts off with a balanced sweet milk chocolate to robust roasty coffee to sly sweet vanilla bean. The flavor balances very nicely between the sweet to the roast with a semi-sticky malty to roasty aftertaste with a quick sly roasty/malty finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Low carbonation. For an RIS, this one had a super low booziness to it. Overall, to me, I absolutely loved this beer. For the style, well, its damn good and would love to have again.

From the 12 fl. oz Nitro bottle with an enjoy by date of 06/08/17. Gorgeous jet black pour with a soft, delicate tan head floating on top. Lacing. On the nose I pick up some dark roasted malts, licorice, Anise and a hint of alcohol. The body is creamy smooth and full. The taste has a nice roasty character with a low to no hop profile and a dryish finish.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. Inky black with a thin white head. It has a very rich liquorice and chocolate flavour with spicy red fruity notes on the warming finish. Pretty good but a little too powerful.
