2/12/2012. From bottle. Dark amber color with a tan head. The alcohol is present up front with malt, dark fruit and spicy aromas. Some sweetness with the alcohol and fruit, but this one packs a punch. ruskiimperial (308) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - DEC 20, 2010
Poured a dark orange, very cloudy and very little head on this one. Aroma is heavy on honey and very syrup-like. Taste is heavy on honey and sweet beerry-like jam. The hops come through quite a bit on the aftertaste after the sweetness mellows out. The dark fruit like plums and raisins are also quite prevalent. This beer is certainly enjoyable, though it’s not overly complex. Could definitely be aged for a good bit. MaltDawg (1344) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 15, 2011
(Sample Date: 11/7/2010 Source:Legend Brewery) Richmond Beerhistoric Tour. Legend 2010 Barleywine. Grape notes with a slight sourness in the aroma with spicy yeast character and caramelized sugars. Very clear golden with ring of white head. Flavor follows aroma with a medium finish that dries quickly and a bit of warming. laiti (8507) - Tampere, FINLAND - SEP 25, 2011

Draught @ Bakushu Club Popeye, Tokyo as ”Barley Wine of the Legend”. 14,5% version, 2011?. rated on 05.09.2011
Mahogany colour, no head. Aroma has sweet caramel, some oaky notes. Actually rather close to Utopias but less alcohol and more sweetness. Flavour has also some alcohol. It is rather woody with oak and some vanilla‐like cognac notes. Acrid finish, rather weird stuff but still good in some way.
Legend’s barleywine is a massive affair, pouring a murky dark mahogany, the huge alcohol content supports a small fizzy head for only a fleeting moment. Aroma is complex and rife with whiskey, raisins, coffee, prunes, and dark cherry. Hot with alcohol and quite bitter, the hops still don’t have the umpf to cut the huge amount of sweet malt here.

Pours a nice clear black with a tan head that doesn’t exist after the pour. Aroma is of alcohol, roasted malts, notes of fruit and caramel and a little chocolate. Lots of alcohol, strong finish, nice malt presence. Good sipping beer. madmitch76 (25286) - , Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 22, 2012

THE Barleywine tasting. 15.3% 2009 version. Very hazy red-brown beer, decent bubbly tan head. Light palate, a little dry. Soft and airy. Inevitably a little aniseed alcohol but not too much. Mild toffee and dried fruits. Very mild - barely there - hops. Semi dry finish. Overall pretty light for it’s abv, just a mild warmth.
On draft at the Mad Fox Barley Wine Festival, Falls Church VA. Vintage 2011. Pours a cloudy amber with a creamy off white head. Caramel and honey in the nose. Sweet candy sugar, caramel, and raisin flavors. High alcohol level pretty well hidden in the sweetness. An excellent barley wine. radagast83 (8299) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - NOV 16, 2013
Draft at the brewpub. Poured a really dark amber/crimson color with a small wispy off-white head. Aroma was notes of caramel, sweet malt notes, some alcohol. Flavor was smooth caramel notes, some light dried fruits. I was really expecting a lot more alcohol burn in this one. It was quite drinkable.

From the bottled poured a cloudy brown brew with a thin beige head. Malty sweet aroma. Full bodied, very sweet, and a pleasant hoppy finish.
