I got this bottle in a trade with jwc215. Thanks Joe!
My first sampling from this brewery:
It pours a...whoah...lots of foam here and I just took it out of the fridge. Anywho, it has a nice hazy brown with some gold colour and a very thick head of off white foam.
The smell is nice and malty with notes of caramel, some earthiness, a touch of nuttiness, and something with a slight tart tinge to it.
The taste has a nice caramel malt base that is followed with some nutty tones, toffee, earth, and a noticeable tinge of tartness. I don't know if that was intended but it sure makes this Brown ale different.
The foam is really sticking around and there's sheets of lacing on the side of my glass. Pretty looking, I'll say.
Mouthfeel is on the thin side but it works.
Overall an interesting interpretation of an English Brown Ale that for me, lets down only because of this tartness that I find out of place. Other than that, it sure is easy enough to drink. I'd say, try it if you see it.

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2017 Nutty and brown sugar nose, malt forward brown ale. Color is dark mahogany with a good tan head. Solid brown ale and a Richmond staple. This was the original craft beer in RVA before the craft beer scene really took off Aggiebob (1393) - Huntsville, Alabama, USA - SEP 12, 2017
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2017 Draft. It poured a cola brown color with a thin beige head. It had a nutty aroma and sweet taste. A very nice brown ale. mgottlob (1) - - MAY 29, 2017 does not count
Our go to beer. Legend has been in Richmond for a long time before Richmond expanded to 17 area breweries and brew pubs. Local beer. Malts not hops

Currently my 6th favorite beer is this English Brown Ale brewed in Richmond, VA. I’ve only had it in a bottle, so I look forward to trying it on Draft;)

Draft at Yard House-Springfield. Normal looking pour, faint aroma, then goes horribly wrong in the taste. Metallic bitterness, cola sweetness. Not sure what this is supposed to be, but not very good. No drains nearby.... Carlisle (865) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 25, 2016
Draft. Pours brown color. Little noticeable aroma. Some subtle malt flavor. Thin mouthfeel.

Pours dark brown, with a tan head. Aroma of malts and brown sugar. Taste is smooth, sweet, and very drinkable. A nice brown ale to quaff! Thumbs up for sure! Thanks Andy! Bacchus66 (1006) - South Carolina, USA - AUG 2, 2015
Pours clear brown with a quickly-dissipating off-white head. Looks nice enough, though the aromas and flavors are best described as light - light caramel and nutty aromas, similar light flavors with a touch of sweetness. Hints of hops on the finish. Very drinkable, balanced style. rondphoto (4516) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - AUG 2, 2015
bottle @ Beer Run / Charlottesville VA --- Clear dark brown color, smooth 1" beige head, streaks of lace. Taste is nutty malt that adds light carbonation and hops on the swallow. Very simple, not as sweet as one might expect. but not hoppy, either. Meh.
