COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Eddy Baltic Porter is a blanket of malt flavor. Notes of toffee, cocoa, caramel, toasted bread and sherry fruit flavors are interwoven to produce a symphony of splendor. Our Baltic Porter is an homage to the brewers of the Baltics and a tribute to our own historic brewing waters, the Big Eddy Spring.

Ron (4216) - Rochester, New York, USA - AUG 17, 2013
Pours a deep fig brown with a small tan head. Aroma of metal, dark fruits, chocolate, and toasted nuts. Flavor of dates, chocolate, dry toast, and earth. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a dry, earthy mouthfeel. Decent but I normally like this style better. Thanks for the trade JB.

TURDFERGUSON (4068) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - SEP 13, 2012
Bottle. Dark amber going in that looks like a much darker brown when poured into the glass in my poorly lit living room. No head, carbonation is low. Nose of black malt, lightly roasted, water, light moonpie, coffee but u have to search a bunch. Flavor is a messy collab of molasses, black patent malt, metal, finishing roasty, bloody, and slightly rubbery. Very dry and strange.

JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - DEC 25, 2012
12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Distressing clear and thin pour, looks for all the world like a brown ale from BMC. Very little carbonation, mostly translucent rusty water. Nose is malt and toffee, with just a smidge of fruit undertones and not much promise of a robust porter, Baltic or otherwise. Sure enough, it’s thin-bodied as fuck and one-dimensional in its flavors: caramel candy, no base beer to speak of, and none of that gloriously healthy lactic body and finish I enjoy in the style. Good thing the Duck Rabbit just hit shelves this week.

alobar (3941) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 26, 2013
Pours a dark cola brown color with a tan head that vanishes quickly. Minimal aroma with hint of dark fruit. Dark fruit flavor with toffee, caramel, chocolate, and hint of roasted malt. Big beer!

Clear mahogany with a tin brown head. Aroma of dark fruits, molasses, licorice, plum, toasted malts and alcohol. Taste of dark fruits, plum, dates, figs and alcohol. Sweet and sticky and I kept expecting it to get better as it warmed but no such luck. These Big Eddy beers all seem so similar to one another. Thankfully I got them as singles…

reggiedunlop (3726) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 17, 2012
Pours deep brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is slightly fruity and metallic. Flavor is roasty with dark fruit...faint licorice and metallic note. Mouthfeel is medium and lively with a roasty/fruity slightly metallic finish.

queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - FEB 13, 2013
Bottle. Molasses, prune, chocolate, and slight anise aroma. Deep chestnut with a large tan head. Anise and molasses flavor. Reminds me a bit of the Risa Opal candies I ate as a kid in Iceland.... except without the menthol. I liked the candy, but I don’t think I like the flavor as a beer all that much. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Bottle. Pours an average amber with a nose of toffee, caramel, light syrup, and brown sugar. Flavor is melon, light caramel, toffee, and dough. Average mouthfeel. Average.

jb (3426) - Rochester, New York, USA - MAY 5, 2013
Appearance is clear and reddish brown. Nose is bread, brown sugar, and a bit of fruit. Similar to a doppel nose, good for me. Creamy mouthfeel, sugary sweet start, dips into a bit of sour, and chocolate malt, caramel, and chocolate tastes. Very interesting. Not true to style but very interesting brew.

Looks and smells promising but an odd flavor note keeps this from being a repeater. Never could place what it was but probably the same thing the previous reviewer called metallic.
