Gotta try this one. Can’t believe its from Leinie’s. Very Complex, flavors galore...Love this Beer! jebert (500) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 21, 2013
Pours a deep dark mahogany with a small caramel colored head. Aroma is malt with a hint of chocolate. Very creamy with thick viscosity on the palate. The taste is chock full of malt, chocolate, coffee with a hint of sweet molasses. Not hoppy. This is a quality beer full of flavor that can be enjoyed alone or paired with nuts and/or cheeses. Pours opaque sable that lets a bit of ruby light peek through at the very bottom. Tan head is fairly thick but makes an early exit. Strong aroma has rich molasses and roast malt notes plus hints of chocolate and dark fruit. Flavor bursts with molasses, charred malt and roast quality coffee; cocoa, dark fruit and a little caramel provide the background tones. Texture has firm, smooth body, though fizz is lacking. Recommended if you can find it. Kco (51) - USA - SEP 24, 2012
When I first tried this brew, I would not have rated it as well. But I had it with cheese. This pairing brought out rich nutty and chocolate notes. It is one of best beers I have paired with cheese. polomagnifico (1202) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - NOV 4, 2012
Bottle. Aroma has big notes of caramel, toffee, cocoa, dark bread malts and porto. Great nose!!! Very dark brown that sits black in the glass. Large frothy off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lace. Flavor is very sweet and medium bitter. Palate is full bodied and watery soft. Overall an amazing beer I can’t get enough of. I have know idea why the rating for this are so low. It drank good to me.

This pours a dark brown color with a slight light brown head. The aroma gives it that scent like it’s been aged in a sherry barrel with a mild fruitiness of plums. The texture is smooth and creamy. There are lots of complex roasted and smoky flavors. Finishes ever so crisp. Not too bad but there’s also room for improvement.

2012 bottle to snifter. First observation is that this is a lot lighter than I was expecting. It’s brown with a garnet hue. Short lived head fades to a thin collar around the glass. Lightly carbonated with slow moving bubbles ascending to the top of the brew. Sugar cane and light molasses aroma. Quite sweet and nice. Taste starts off sweet like the aroma but then balances out with a touch if bitter roast and finishes with a sugared black coffee flavor. Somewhat slippery in the mouth. Not as dark or as much licorice flavor as I was expecting but I like the coffee roast sweetness. Tasty. cubs (10677) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JUL 23, 2013
Bottle @ home, picked up at 287 Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Big sweet black licorice, brown sugar, dark fruit, chocolate, caramel, candy, a touch boozy, enticing aroma. Smells good. Quite rich, rich burnt sugar, caramelized sugar, spicy cinnamon, anise, light vanilla, a bit woody, potent chocolate flavor. Lots of raisin and dark fruit notes. It’s a big beer with big flavors. Maybe it just needed some time to mellow out. This is nice. Surprisingly pure deliciousness. ronaldtheriot (1965) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - OCT 11, 2013
Leinenkugel’s Big Eddy Baltic Porter has a fairly thin, cream-colored head, a murky, red-brown appearance, some visible bubble streams, and thin lacing left behind. The aroma is of licorice candy, dark bread crust, sweetness, and candy sugar. Taste is of black licorice, black bread, sweet, melted hard candy, and a balancing hop bitterness at the end of the sip. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Leinenkugel’s Big Eddy Baltic Porter finishes wet, rich, flavorful, and delicious. I did not detect alcohol with this. Overall, this is most excellent. Aroma has dried fruit and smoky top notes. Flavor is roasty and not too sweet. Rounded thick malts.
