Vintage 2012, 12oz bottle. Very dark brown pour, thin ring tan head. Aroma of molasses, sweet toasted malt syrup, dark fruit puree, and chocolate malt. Tastes like a burnt Belgian Dubbel. The beer pours a dark brown color with a white head. The aroma is full of alcohol and some dark fruit notes. I also get a little bit of brown sugar. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of raisin and prune notes, as well as some molasses and roasted malt. I also get the slightest hint of smoke. Clear and light brown out of the bottle but as it pools its black with a thick brown head. Nose is roasted coffee, almonds, chocolate, grass, cherries. Taste is sweet and slightly tart With the bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel is crisp yet soft, fizzy, light to medium body with a long finish.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 On tap @ Silver Creek. Of the Big Eddy’s I’ve tried (Imp. Russian Stout and Wee Heavy being the others) it’s not my favorite. Pours opaque chocoate brown with a pretty cream/tan head. Aroma is a little hard to pin down... toasted hemp? Flavor follows with ... again the toasted hemp and general roastiness and a slight sour finish. Medium body. On tap at Tapwerks. Pours dark brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet dark grains with sweet chocolate and a hint of roasted malts. Pours a dark reddish brown with brown head fading to a ring leaving some oily spotty lacing. Aroma is molasses, toffee, nutty. Taste is sweet and almost rich at first, but things fall apart as a fruity tartness comes in the middle, ending with a licorice soy sauce astringency. Bottle. Pours black. Nose/taste of molasses, sweet chocolate, sherry, toasted bread, cherry and black malt. Very little roast, mostly sweet with a lighter than medium body. Short sherry finish.
