From bottle. Pours a dark dark reddish black with a big fine beige head. Aroma is dark fruits and chocolate, coffee. Taste is the same, sweet, rich, with some caramel. FROTHINGSLOSH (8069) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 2, 2015
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a matte black color with a large foamy orange-brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet, malty and toasty with notes of molasses, cocoa powder and soy sauce. The flavor was sweet and malty with molasses, cherry, fig, chickory, cocoa powder and soy sauce. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Solid. jmagnus87 (2912) - Rockford, Illinois, USA - SEP 26, 2012
12oz bottle poured into s shaker. Pours a dark amber with a ruby hue and about a half finger of khaki head. Aroma is malt dominated. Chocolate, toffee and molases with some black liquorish and a hint of soy sauce. Taste is light bitter and light tart. The 8.5%abv is very noticeable at first but diminishes quickly through the finish. It starts with a mix of tart and dark fermented fruits, moves into molasses and toffee and ends with a long bakers chocolate aftertaste. Full bodied with a thick and creamy, yet slightly sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, very good. Not the best in the big eddy series but very drinkable. Aging this for a few years or pairing it with cheese or chocolate may help to mellow it out some and take a bit of the edge off. BVery (11222) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - OCT 14, 2012
Bottle. Very dark brown pour with a tan head. Appearance and palate are fairly full-bodied. Chocolate and cocoa aroma. Taste is sweet and roasty. Quite good. AWISLguy (3283) - Wisconsin, USA - OCT 26, 2012
Bottle from Woodmans in the Falls. Pours reddish brown with a bit of a off-tan head. No real lacing, although when worked hard, there is some. Aroma has licorice, molasses and faint chocolate. A sweeter aroma than that would seem. Taste is of milk chocolate, licorice, some caramel malt and some presence of raisins. Finishes moderately quickly; sweet and slightly sour. Not a ton going on here. More that they could not decide what they wanted to do. Drinkable, and not bad, but just not really good either.

Pours a dark cola brown color with a tan head that vanishes quickly. Minimal aroma with hint of dark fruit. Dark fruit flavor with toffee, caramel, chocolate, and hint of roasted malt. Big beer! djd07 (15341) - Houston, Texas, USA - FEB 14, 2013
Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a medium beige head leaving spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a bready malt and raisin. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet malt and chocolate with light dry finish. Easy to drink a good Baltic porter from Lienenkugels. OKplus (787) - Oklahoma, USA - JUN 20, 2013
12oz served in a Southern Tier tulip.
A - Yellowish tan head on top of a dark garnet brown body.
S - Prunes, toasted cereal, molasses, caramel, leather, very faint charred malts, very sweet aroma, cherry fruit, some sweet rose aroma. When it warms molasses dominates everything.
T - Tangy molasses, sticky raisins and caramel, roasted malts, hints of baker’s chocolate, has some bitterness as well as a slight sour note. Some leather around the edges. Finishes with a a roasty bitterness.
M - Medium body, low to medium carbonation, thin but sticky at times.
This is actually pretty good. If this was in a blind taste test I think this would get better reviews. Very robust flavors with a balanced bitter roast. It’s a tad sweet but it’s a big beer with tons of sticky flavor.

Dark brown with small wispy tan head and solid ring around glass. Aroma is fairly sweet, caramel, toffee, chocolate, brown sugar, dark fruit/raisiny. Flavor much the same but without as much substance. Medium body, soft, turns a little thin. Mild roastyness, some alcohol, fairly sweet with medium duration. Some sips I like better than others. jrodooo5 (1705) - DOVER, Delaware, USA - SEP 27, 2013
Good pour w/ a very nice aroma but the flavor doesn’t quite match up. It had a cool dark pour w/ reddish hues & a big tan head that slowly fades. The aroma is an enticing blend of toffee & caramel. The flavor is smooth but just not as complex as I hoped. Still a very solid beer overall tho!
