I had to try this as it’s pretty high-rated for one of America’s worst beer makers. Pours black with a tan head. Lots of chocolate in the nose, molasses and dark fruit as well. I taste mostly dark fruits with some chocolate. Mouthfeel is thick but not really enjoyable, chewy and syrupy like drinking a bottle of maple syrup. The sweetness is a bit overwhelming and not balanced. I’m a big fan of Imperial stouts, but found this pretty hard to finish, even though I was sharing a 12oz bottle with my girlfriend. I felt sick after drinking it. Yeah, it’s Leine’s best brew, but is that saying much? esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 11, 2008
Black with medium chocolate colored slowly dissipating head. Aroma of roasted malted, licorice, molasses, bread, caramelized sugar and chocolate. Taste of molasses, sugar, alcohol, sweet malts and light chocolate. Thick mouth feel with a mild bitter hop finish that’s somewhat chewy and syrupy. Alcohol hidden ok, but noticeable. Pretty good effort from Leinie’s. bdigital (658) - Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA - JUN 10, 2008
Bottle: Pours about as black as you can get...medium tan head. Outstanding black cherry aroma with notes of dark malts, chocolate and coffee...some light earthy tobacco notes as well. Rich, creamy mouth feel...flavor consists of dark fruits, chocolate, sweetened condensed milk and dark malts. Great brew. Rusty (1547) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - JUN 9, 2008
Bottle via trade courtesy of tytoanderso. Thanks Tyler!
Pours a thick jet black with a nice deep burnt brown head.
Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, molasses, coffee, roasted barley.
Flavor is dark fruits, chocolates, coffee, rasins, roasted barley. Nice fruity flavors come out to meddle with the chocolate as it warms and then it finishes with bitter burnt cocoa. Wow, I was not let down by this one, very good effort by Leinenkugels. YUM! stegosaurus (1882) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 5, 2008
Bottle sampled with Mad_Indian. Pours black with a good size tan head. Aroma of chocolate malts, smoke, roast, and molasses. The flavor is sweet, bitter dark chocolate, roast, some smokey notes, molasses which thickened the body nicely. Excellent brew.

[Bottle] Pours charcoal black with a decent sized tan head. Huge aroma of bittersweet chocolate, some bourbon in there, and sweet dark fruits. Medium body with moderate sweetness. Lots of roasted barley and alcohol in the flavor along with dark chocolate and candi sugar. A dryish finish tops off this masterfully done beer. Bottle from ebay, sampled with Stegosaurus. This reminded me of a milk stout but had some great features. It was smooth, chocolate, milky and balanced. A good brew all around. amishcaravan (247) - Winona, Minnesota, USA - MAY 23, 2008

On tap at Club Tavern in Menasha, WI. Pour was engine oil black with a thick dark brown head. Aroma of chocolate, dark burnt grains and oats. Flavor is amazingly blended and full bodied. Very good brew. Would buy again. CapnCascade (116) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 22, 2008
Pours black with brown foam that has limited retention but creates some lacing as the beer goes away. Aroma of caramelized sugar, alcohol, and hints of chocolate, soy, and spice. Maybe dried fruit. Flavor has noticeable hop and resinous alcohol character. Mince meat pie! Body is creamy without too much carbonation. Not flat, not astringent. Overall a very fine offering--boozy and hard-hitting but complex and balanced all at once.
