pours like 2 day old truck stop coffee, thick and syrupy, with a rootbeer float head. lots of coffee, sweet, mildly hoppy. smooth, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. alcohol flavor is present, but not overpowering. warhawk91 (302) - Newington, Connecticut, USA - FEB 6, 2014
12 oz. bottle. Pour is black with a chocolate ice cream head and very good lacing. The head retention in this is about 4 minutes. Smell is dark roast with a big smoke note with bakers chocolate and a bit of coffee. A touch of booze on the nose. Taste is rich, dark, very smokey and chocolatey. Bittering hop note at the end with a touch of coffee. Much like a smoked porter except bigger, more viscous and complex. Almost like a BBQ stout, very different and very good.

12 oz bottle. Aroma: malty, boozy, and roasty, with hints of chocolate, toffee, and tobacco. Taste/Palate: sweet, creamy, and thick; finishes astringent and slightly bitter. Jasond612 (282) - Phila, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 17, 2013
8/16/13 bottle from RW shared with Dan out front. When I scanned it I was surprised it was lenkenkugel. (And feared the worse). However This was a good big beer! poured dark dark black color with delicious chocolate and dark coffee tones. Almost syrupy going down your throat. Overall a really good RIStout.

draft. Dark tan head. Rich malt aroma and flavor. Creamy stout that is excellent and well balanced with alcohol

Sweet, malty, hints of coffee. Alcohol well hidden for a brew with this ABV. A beer to savor. Great to taste the hops with this outstanding stout. inkubus27 (269) - highland, Indiana, USA - MAR 22, 2008
UPDATED: AUG 4, 2009 I ran across this on a trip to get some Kentucky Breakfast stout. Holy crap this is great stuff! Really unexpected coming from Leinenkugel’s. Aroma is of sweet malts, raisins, and licorice. Taste is thick, complex and sweet. One of the better stouts that I have had. slitcher (267) - Freeport, Illinois, USA - OCT 26, 2010
12 ounce bottle. Pours pitch black with a dark tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, molasses, coffee and slight bourbon. Flavors of cocoa, espresso, caramel, rum soaked raisins, vanilla and wood. Perfect amount of carbonation and the alcohol is hidden fairly well...incredible. franksnbeans (265) - Columbus, Maryland, USA - DEC 23, 2007
Pours out jet black with a huge cocoa head that dies slow and laces big. Smells of chocolate covered fruit, dried plums, coffee and cocoa. Taste is big chocolate, some dark fruit and coffee but all out of sorts. These flavors usually are perfect together but they all seem off. Turned off by the chalky finish. Full in the mouth and the ABV is well hidden. A victim of hype.

Tasty and robust, with roasted coffee and caramel.
This stout is plenty to write home about with a mild carbonation and plenty of hops playing a fine background.
This brew only wants a bit better grain balance and slightly smoother mouthfeel, but it doesn't stop Eddy from brig a wonderful addition to the party.
