Besides the normal coffee, chocolate, coco smell there is a smell of sweetness to it, almost a sweet caramel smell. Classic dark coffee appearance, taste is raisns, coffee, bittersweet chocolate. Very complex stout, so much so that you can’t taste the 9.5 ABV. Needs more kick, very malty.

On tap at Blue Nile. Pour is black with minimal brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, caramel, dark fruit and raisins. Flavor much of the same with some alcohol. Palate is thick and chewy. Too much going on to enjoy. An alright but slightly disappointed.

12 oz bottle for 2.79. Pours black with a brown head. Looks nice. Aroma is slight coffee with some chocolate and roasty flavors too. Taste is more fruity, raisin and sweet with a little bit of the chocolate and bitter flavor coming through on the end. Body is a little thicker with an oily texture. This is a pretty decent RIS. Not amazing but definitely way better than the other beers Leinenkugel produces.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2008 Had this side by side with DL, Darkness and Expedition. this was my second favorite one. Dark lord is terrible, way to sweet and plumy/malty. BIG EDDY is tasty stuff nice amount of hops little bit O’ coffee as well overall i was a big fan. Keep it coming

On tap @ Old Chicago, black as sin and a quick dark tan head; aroma of earthy coffee and dark chocolate; lots of coffee up front with a little caramelized malt; little hoppy on the aftertaste; easy going carbonation but a little less body than I would like. Not bad at all but the aftertaste and body keep it from being amazing.

Bottle. Close to back with almost nonexistent beige head. Aromas of cocoa, toffee, coffee, grass, leather, tobacco, herbs, citrus. Flavors of toffee, cocoa, coffee, leather, tobacco, spice. Slightly sweet finish with hop attenuation. Full body with slick mouthfeel and low, bright carbonation.

Bottle. Black with a tan head. Bitter malt and chocolate aromas. Big bitter chocolate and sweet coffee flavors. Better than I expected.

Probably the best Impy I’ve had. Pours a motor oil black with a 1 finger width light brown head that disappates pretty quickly. Smells of dark chocolate slight hops and smoky notes. Taste of chocolate, with a earthy coffee flavor and as the gentleman before me noted a faint black licorice taste I caught a glimpse of. DELICOUS, I’m definately going to let a few of these age out for a while. Glad it is brewed here in Wisconsin and it shouldn’t prove to difficult to find.

Tasty and robust, with roasted coffee and caramel. This stout is plenty to write home about with a mild carbonation and plenty of hops playing a fine background. This brew only wants a bit better grain balance and slightly smoother mouthfeel, but it doesn't stop Eddy from brig a wonderful addition to the party. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz pours a dark brown/black with a small ring of tan foam. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits? Flavors of chocolate, molasses, caramel and again dark fruit notes, fairly bitter coffee finish. Palate was smooth.
