More wee than heavy. Wee carbonation. Wee body. Essentially, high octane root beer, but not as rich in flavor. This might be good REALLY REALLY cold if you drink them fast, and if you drink four of them.

Don’t know how I missed rating this earlier... I’m drinking a 2012 vintage that I set aside years ago... Pours reddish coffee color, slightly hazy. Particularly fizzy head when first poured. Aroma is dried fruit and treacle... maybe dark fruit bread. Flavor follows aroma, with a subtle sour (not unpleasant) note... I want to say coffee, but that’s not quite accurate, ... roasted works. Palate is rich without being overly sweet or heavy. Overall, if memory serves, age has mellowed the sweetness of the younger version, for the better. Bottle to glass,ruby,cola color,small rapidly diminishing head. Aroma of bread and caramel with average hop note. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Bottled. Notes of caramel malt, toffee, some and dark fruit. Finish was bready. Not bad.

Draft sample at Cincy Beerfest 2014 on Fountain Square. Pours a dark, somewhat cloudy amber, almost brownish, with a big beige head. Notes of toffee, brown sugar, cream, peat, earth, and dark fruits. The mouthfeel is way out of whack- both fairly high in malt/peat intensity and watered down at the same time. Very strange and uneven. Medium-high carbonation. Just clumsily made, from my read. "Been lookin for this a long time. Beautiful pour - just like the pic without cool backlighting. a little on the sweet side with dark fruits, toffee...a little sugary sweet but fitting. The peatiness won me over instantly. More smoky in the flavor than the nose. Adds a really nice depth. at $2.50, a steal. Deep brown with liquor-like clarity, tan head. Malty caramel aroma with hints of pitted fruit and quite a bit of esters. Almost peaty, but not smokey. Tastes sweet up front, almost cloying. sharp bitter bite behind earthy malt. Finishes with an astringent, alcohol linger. Has a unique high note I can’t quite place.
Nice beer to curl up and sip at near a fireplace with a book, but can’t see myself reaching for one otherwise.
UPDATED: NOV 14, 2014 Bottle (12oz $3.75): pours a deep brown. Bourbon and cocoa taste. Very drinkable. I like
Update 11/13/14. Dropped rating from 3.8 to 3.7. Seem to sweet today.
