Moderately creamy. Moderately dark.
Smooth, if characterless, dark beer. Easy to drink, hard to savor. cb (810) - Roeland Park, Kansas, USA - JAN 4, 2003
There isn't anything special or unique to this dunkel, its just a standard dark ale (to me at least). Very easy to drink, your palate doesn't have to think about this one. Leinie's is for those who want to *think* they are drinking non-macro brews. grant (842) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JAN 3, 2003
As with all Leinie's beers I've tried, this seems to be on the watery side. What substance is there is good, but there is so little of it. I'm not really sure how I'd categorize this, but it doesn't seem much like a dunkel at all. Reminds me quite a bit of Xingu, actually. Smells and tastes coffeeish, with little hops, and a spare finish. Pretty weak, but also pretty cheap. DigsWierdBeer (11) - omaha, Nebraska, USA - JAN 3, 2003
A good way to get into drinking darker beers without hitting a bitter wall. Best on tap but drinkable when bottled. Isn't really so much a dunkel as it is a dark lager. A nice beer to have around in quantity during the Winter. Have to agree with the other comments -- it's not very creamy, but its otherwise quite good. Good Dark beer, taste is suprising for a dark. With it's color I expected a much heartier taste. Overall this is a good beer, maybe something to start a new comer to dark beers.

Good dark for beginners. Remember, it's a lager, not a stout -- just because it's dark, don't expect the heavy, thick taste that many assume all dark beers have. Good colour, flavour strong but less than some darks, fine aftertaste. I haven't yet found Leinenkugel's Doppelbock, but this will do from them until then. markymark (82) - Duluth, Minnesota, USA - DEC 22, 2002
A major let down from Leinenkugel's. Stay away from this and their Berry Weiss. homerman (40) - Clinton, Iowa, USA - DEC 15, 2002
Man what a let down. Kinda reminded me of dirty sock water. If I want get a hankerin for somthing creamy, I will grab a Sam Adams Cream Stout. Slick (1969) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - DEC 14, 2002
Middle of the road brew not great but they do an ok job ok malty nose with some coffee in it taste was fair with the same coffee in again nice head that sadly didn't last long.clean finish with again more coffee in the aftertaste good eye opener in the morning. One of the best tasting dark lagers available. Actually has flavor to match the name unlike Heine's or Beck's. Creamy mocha flavoring in a smooth drinking beer.
