Definately the best beer in his price range i’ve ever tasted. Bottle from Slijter Paauwenburg. Color is dark black with a tan head which disappears pretty quicly. Taste is sweet and thick like velvet. A bit malty because of the barley but then the bourbon kicks in and leaves you flabbergasted. Had the beer during the 2016 Kompaan Bloedbroeder festival. The beer looks very good. The color of the brew is dark brown, with a nice ruby red glow in the light. The beer hardly forms any foam. But, for this beer type that is not uncommon.
The smell is lovely. It is really the smell a barley time should have. The smell is quite warm. I smell some aromas of coffee, some chocolate, roasted barley, sweet malts and some oak wood. It is all in good balance.
The taste is rich and warming. I taste alcohol, chocolate, coffee, some sweeter malts and oak wood. The taste is pretty much the same as the smell. There are nice sweets, bitters and delicate sours from the oakwood. They are in perfect balance. It is a lovely combination with a dark chocolate desert.
The palate is nice. The beer has a nice tingly touch, perfect for the taste and smell. On of the better beers around and a beautiful barley wine. Good job. Vells (1894) - Rīga, LATVIA - APR 14, 2017

Piana sycząca, szybko opada do chmurki, barwa mahoniowa, mętna. W aromacie sporo nut bourbonowych, waniliowych, karmelowych, w tle suszona gruszka, rodzynki, orzechy. Smak słodki, dominuje toffi, melasa i karmel, są też włoskie orzechy, wanilina, nieco tanin, krówki. Goryczka średnia, tytoniowa, nisko wysycone, oleiste, miękkie, aksamitne w odbiorze. Alkohol obecny, nieprzeszkadzający.

Zaskakująco dobre Barley Wine, bardzo klasyczne, angielskie, wzbogacone aromatami i smakami z beczki oraz naleciałościami z whiskey. Amerykańskość tego piwa objawia się chyba tylko całkiem fajnie zaznaczoną goryczką i bourbonem, idealnie kontrującymi słodkie toffi. #teamslodyczka "pod moje upodobania". Klasa!

Keg at The Pint Shop, Oxford, Saturday 4th March 2017in the company of John, Ian and Glen. Pours black with a tiny white rim. This is like a low carbonation cola on steroids. APPEARANCE – extremely black, no head & slightly broen around the averages.
NOSE – BOOZY!!
FLAVOR – a lot of whiskey flavor. Searching past the wiskey, I taste delicious sweet malty flavs.
NOTES – I think it would be a bit better if I aged it for a couple of years.
