The name of this beer is Lervig Farmhuse Stout. It is indeed the same beer base as Lervig Konrads Stout (an imperial stout), but Farmhouse Stout is fermented with saison yeast in stead of American ale yeast. It is considerably drier than Konrads stout (which also is one of my favourite Norwegian beers), the alcohol is well hidden, and it is dangerously drinkable for its strength. For other characteristics: See my rating of Konrads Stout. Farmhouse Stout is available on tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger.
On tap at Haand Festival. Looking gorgeous in the glass, even though I’ve been using the glass all night. A finger-thick tan head leaves lacings as the black beer goes down my throat. It smells and tastes quite delicious too, with salty licorice, roasted malts, some chocolate and both coffee and alcohol. The flavor has some sweetness, but enough hoppy bitterness to balance it, as well as the coffee, chocolate, salty licorice, roasted malts and alcohol found in the aroma. It’s full-bodied, creamy and soft on the palate. Not much alcohol warmth considering the ABV. Lasting finish where the dark malts dominates. A really tasteful one, not one to down by the gallon, but to enjoy in your favorite chair after a good meal or if you need something good in the glass on a cold winter night. 130525 banii (240) - Sola, NORWAY - OCT 21, 2013
Some crazy yeasty notes compared to the original Konrads. Threw me off - not my cup of tea, but it’s still good. fonefan (49293) - VestJylland, DENMARK - OCT 3, 2013
