On tap at CBC, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma of light farmhouse notes, hay, and Belgian yeast. Flavour brings out light farmhouse notes, hay, some cereal malts, and some Belgian yeast. Very light on the palate, with a very hay and yeast dominance. Great stuff.

Big offwhite dense lasting head. Clear yellow body. Light fruity oregano aroma with blackberry notes. Odd. Dry-sweet oregano and wild berries taste with spicy herbal lavender notes. Mid-bodied. Slightly fizzy mouthfeel. Dryish oregano and metal aftertaste with vinegary fruity notes. It’s not bad, but very strange and not altogether successful. (0.2l draft at Henriks, Bergen.)

In short: A spicy and somewhat hoppy blond ale with a light Saison character
How: Tap at at Henrik Øl, Bergen Norway
The look: Clear blond body topped by a medium white head
In long: Nose is medium spicy (mainly red pepper), some nice rustic yeast presence and some fruity hops. Taste has a solid crackery malt backbone, medium spiciness with a “hot” character (red pepper, light chilli), cobweb sensation, fruity hops with a tropical fruits character. Round fruity bitterness with spicy after-taste. An unusual mix of hard spiciness, refreshing hop profile and rustic notes. Enjoyable. Plenty of good beer to drink in Norway, too bad beer is so expensive in this country, and I had to pay for all the beer myself because my wife and I don’t have a shared bank account, and I know my wife doesn’t trust me with her money because she chose ATM PIN that I haven’t been able to figure out yet.

Draught @ Henrik Øl og Vinstove, Bergen
Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, black pepper and grass. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with a long pepper and dry finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

One of an amazing range of 44 beers on tap at Henrik Øl & Vinstove. 350ml shared with Maja. Next to clear, copper coloured body. Filmy white head, some lace. Dry fruity aroma lightly spiced. Fruity taste with lime, melon and mint. Dry fruity ending. Thirst quenching, however too much soft drink impression (Bergen, 16.09.2012).

On tap at Henriks. It pours a lightly hazy, golden body and a dense, creamy, white head. Lots of flowery scents, heather, ryllik, what’s that in English?, gale, and finely grinded black pepper. Some fruitiness too. Dry on the palate with pleasant carbonation, medium body. A bit herbal flavour maybe, but nice and flowery. Fruity too, and with a little bit of maltiness. Pleasant bitterness too. An unusual one, but I like it. 120907

On tap @ Henrik, Bergen. Pours yellow, with a big creamy head. Aroma is yeast, sour citrus, hay, spice and notes of oak. Full body, with a soft to medium carbonation. Flavour is sour with yeast and hay, as well as grain, oak and caramel.

From keg @ Opsahlgården, Kongsberg Ølfestival 2012. Pours a slightly hazed, brass colored body. Dense, shiny white top. Nice smell of freshly crushed pepper. Not overdone, just a subtle and inviting scent from the red, or mayby rosé peppercorn added. Some fine fruit aromas too, reminiscent of apricot and mild citrus zest. Taste is semi-dry, quite crisp pale malts. Fruity hop flavor, mild bitterness. Nice pepper character. Not tongue-numbing or palate-burning. Just a gentle hot sensation, leaving room for the pepper flavor. Properly light-bodied. A wee astingency on the palate. Overall, a perfectly balanced and well crafted spiced beer.

Henrik Ol & Vinstove, Bergen tap: Pours a peach colour with a white head. Aroma is fruit, spice, and peppers. Flavour is particular, but alas, it is very light. There is some mild funk, along with minimal sourness. Aroma is definitely better than the taste.
