Bottle thanks to Chad. Pours caramel brown with off white head. Nose and taste of caramel, toffee malt, dark fruit, sweet bread and light alcohol. Finishes spicy hop/toffee malt and dark fruit. Medium body.

750 mL bottle. Amber-brown. Not much head. Smoke and humbugs in the nose. Dried fruit and smoke. Not too sweet. Not complex, and finishes quickly.

750 ml bottle from a small dépanneur over in Gatineau.

Appearance: Pours a deep hazy brown with a couple solid fingers of tan head. Good retention and lacing.

Caramel malt, toffee, peat, tar.

Burnt malt, black coffee, nuts, oak, hint of vanilla and an earthy bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Average viscosity and carbonation.

Overall: A nice Scotch Ale but I would have preferred it a bit more on the sweet, malty caramel side rather than being more dark malt and bitterness.

Really wish the bottling date was legible, as I’ve had this for a while, and I doubt it was fresh when I bought it. Anyhoo, this has aged very well. I don’t have much to say that wasn’t covered by radiomgb below, but I will add that this stuff has some really nice earthy/woody/peaty scotch notes, like it’s been barrel-aged (I am, in fact, drinking the normal version, though it’s gotta be at least two years old). Batch number is also, unfortunately illegible, but at any rate this is really good stuff. Alcohol on the label is also 9%, not the 8% listed above.

Overall: Sweet toffee, candy.

Bottle. Pours mahagony with medium tan head. Arom is an interesting balance of roasted malts and caramel. Taste is similar, but also a bit smokey and some herbs a poping out a bit.

radiomgb (2686) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - APR 10, 2015
Muddy brown in colour with a thin but lasting beige head, light lacing. The aroma is of caramel, brown sugar, some sweetness, dark fruits, earthy. The flavour is sweet, light toffee, some dark fruits, woody, herbal and peppery. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, warming, sweet. This is really good stuff.

Fiche technique Style: Scotch Ale Format: 750 ml Taux d?alcool : 9% Température: 12°C
