Keg at Brasseur du Temps, Gatineau. Hazy mahogany colour, rich creamy head. Spicy tea aroma. Very sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Oolong tea and caramel, brown sugar and herbal bitter spices. Mildly warming finish with lingering herbal bitterness. Interesting, but feels too sweet and young at this point. I can imagine this beer is suitable for (barrel) aging.

Bouteille avec une date illisible. Robe rouge-ambrée claire surmontée d’un épais col de mousse. Arômes de caramel, sucre d’orge, pamplemousse rose, cacao, fraise, muscade. En bouche, sucre d’orge, pamplemousse, malt grillé, caramel, cacao. Texture huileuse et corps moyon. Vin d’orge anglais dans la moyenne basse.

(750ml bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, earth, butterscotch, and vinous. Flavor of caramel, butterscotch, bread, earth, and grain with a dry finish.

Aroma is clove, tart, caramel, toffee, and fresh bread. Taste is sweet malts, toffee , caramel, tart, and some yeast. Well balanced and complex. Definitely some bite. Appearance is a hazy amber with a medium off white head that retains fairly well.

Dégustée en compagnie de Ju-Lo et Dominique. Ouin. Ça ne se passe pas bien ici. Le liquide est d’apparence honnête mais sans plus. Orangé, trouble et mousseux. On a vu pire, on a vu mieux. Un nez de caramel sucré auquel s’ajoute un déplaisant côté de carton et de pomme au beurre. Les malts ont eu chaud et sentent un peu le vestiaire sportif. Saveurs de pommes au sucre très déplaisantes qui se résorbent en une drôle de finale amère. Très effervescente, cette bière ne me plaît pas du tout.

De rouge rouge- brun avec peu everfessance . On n’a des de pain grillé , du malt caraméliser et un les goût butterscott . En bouche c est une mélange gens malt caraméliser avec un goût pain grillé . C est une bière bien équilibré bien fait .

Appearance: Pours an opaque candy brown colour with a bit of tan head.

Aroma: Honey, dark malt.

Flavours: Honey, brown sugar, toffee, caramel, dark malt, moca, chocolate, molasses, figs.

Mouthfeel: Thick and coating with average carbonation.

Overall: A luscious Barley Wine with gobs of honey on the aroma and in the flavour. This shifts towards caramel and honey after it had been open a while. Overall, I would say this is a really nice well put together beer with a fair bit of complexity.

How: Bottle (750 ml) at home. Bottled in 2011, so 4 years old. Split 3-ways.

>>> An oxidized and a bit harsh resinous and mineral forward Barley Wine that doesn’t seem to be able to handle a few years of aging. I would be interested to try a younger version.

- Cloudy orangey brown with a small persistent tan head and little lacing.
- Resinous forward with strong earthy/mineral presence and ashed notes.
- There’s was some interesting fruity notes, but they were hidden by the main flavors.
- Oxidation (and cardboard flavor) is already quite present in this one and doesn’t fit well in the flavor profile, unlike some Barley Wine that ages pretty well.
- Taste is rather sweet, but the sweetness is quickly set aside by the borderline harsh piney and earthy presence.
- Not too boozy, but the drinkinability is still pretty low.

Flavors: Resinous, minereal/earthy presence, caramel, toffee, red fruits, oxidation notes, a bit of cardboard.

Une robe brune penchant sur le rouge est à peine surmontée d’une mousse beige plutôt mince. Des arômes de sucre d’orge explosent au nez, dominant les effluves de fruits confits et de fruits rouges même. Lorsque la bière se réchauffe, l’alcool prend plus de place au nez. Malgré sa lourdeur sucrée évidente, la bière se boit quand même bien. Du caramel brûlé, des dattes et des figues sont en vedette dans un corps bien rond et malté.
