Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Deep black color with a thin brown head. Flavor of chocolate and roasted malt. Bitter finish. Medium body with a vinous texture and medium carbonation.

Bottle at Seattle tasting. Dark body, thick super creamy brown foam. Bitter dish soap aroma. hugely bitter, very odd, bitter chocolate, astringent, a bit soapy-chemical. Strangely bad. Interesting but some really weird flavors here.

Bottle: Vintage 2011: Many thanks Pushkinwow: Chouffe glass: Beige light brwin head. Black beer. Aromas of liquorice, roast, bay leaf, raisin, oat, light marzipan and light soy. Flavour is a good mix between bitter, roast, liquorice, coffee, oat and toffee. Very nice, good dark and bitter! Aftertaste is bitter, roast, liquorice, bread, light coffee, some toffee and herbal roast. Low carbo, creamy close to silky mouthfeel, more than medium bodied. Good beer!

750mL bottle, sent from yourilevesque (thanks a lot, Youri), pours black with a huge tan head. Aroma brings out roasted malt and dry cocoa powder. Flavour is very roasty and rather harsh in this department - tons of roasted malt. Very dry, maybe a bit of cocoa. Not very complex but it works. Decent.

750 mL bottle poured at the tasting. Pours black with a tan foam head. Roasted malt aroma. What’s going on with the bitterness here? Ended up being a topic of discussion, as it seemed to be agreed upon widely. Lingers forever. Decent coffee and roasted flavors in there, but buried by bitterness. It has some good qualities for sure. Not bad.

Bottle - Dark malts and some dark chocolate. Jet brown and a huge light brown head. Bitter roast and lots more bitterness and an overly bitter finish.

750 ml bottle from a little dépanner in Gatineau.

Appearance: Pours jet black with mountains of tan head. Exceedingly long retention and massive amounts of lacing.

Aroma: Coffee, roasted malt, charcoal, magic marker.

Flavours: Coffee, roasted malt, charcoal, burnt coffee grounds, cola and some vanilla.

Mouthfeel: Thinner mouthfeel with average carbonation.

Overall: A decent stout but thinner than many others I’ve had. Lots of flavours coming out but it just didn’t wow me. Perhaps a bit too bitter.

750ml bottle from La Trappe au Fromage in Gatineau, Quebec. Black in colour with a thin but long lasting beige head, good lacing. The aroma is of chocolate, roasty, burnt malts, light alcohol, some sweetness. The flavour is of chocolate, roasted and burnt malts, dark fruits, some sweetness, rich with a bit of alcohol. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, chocolatey, warm. A very nice easy to drink imperial stout. Very nice.

Pours a small thin frothy brownish head and has a dark brown appearance. Thick dirty lacing. Aromas of cocoa, chocolate and dark roasted malts. Alcohol is slightly noticeable. Flavours are of the malty variety. Lots of chocolate and cocoa notes. Some sweet and toasty malts with strong coffee notes. Has a somewhat astringent sensation on the palate. Good stuff!
