COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Amber, hazy, small head. Lots of funk in aroma, red fruits, citrous. Medium sourness, medium body, high bitterness. Again lots of funo in flavour, cherry esters, soke malt. Nice hidden alcohol, but to high bitterness.

Brown opaque color with permanent creamy thin creamy head. Nice aroma, fresh fruity Bretts, flowery. Highly carbonated, earthy malts flavor, mild acidity, definitively a lot of Brett, culminating in big final astringency and more Brett, alcohol and earthy character.
Not much a Barley Wine. Extreme, edgy, very good.

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with nice fruity and funky ester. Taste is a nice complex mix of caramelized malt with some residual sugar notes and some fruity and dry brett notes with light hoppy notes also perceptible. Body is about average with good carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. Solid take on the base beer with oak and Brett notes really adding some additional complexities while retaining great drinkability.

Bottle from local iga grocery A: upfront fruity brett, apple, spicy, red fruits. App: clear dark copper with smallish head with good lacing. T/p: thin to med body with moderate to long acidic finish. Moderate to high carbonation. O: I’m not sure this should have been labeled as a barleywine since the brett changed the beer leaving little of the style behind. It’s a decent beer don’t get me wrong, but this is something else.

I’m a huge fan of beers from this brewery, except this one. This special edition version of the barrel-aged barleywine uses Brett yeast, which sours it. I know that’s what is supposed to happen, but I prefer not to drink beers that taste like vinegar. I wish I had read the label more closely when I bought this at the brewery. Very disappointing. Having said that, if you’re a fan of sour beers, I’m sure this one is pretty good. Read other reviews for that assessment.

A reddish copper barleywine with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light Brett notes, light cork character, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt loads of Brett, ground cherries, lactic acid, light leather notes, dry, very nice and complex. Bottle at L’autre oeil.

Another entry in the brettanomyces trend! Hazy amber appearance, tan head. Aromas of woodsy brett. The taste of woodsy brett is predominant, putting aside most of the sugary and fruity taste of the original version of this beer, which are still present in the background. Medium strong hops feeling towards the end. Almost no taste of alcohol. Medium body, a bit lighter than expected. A pretty good hybrid, though you’d think it’s more of a brett first, than a barleywine.

At Brian’s during special LTM beers tasting. 750ml bottle. Bottled on 22-Sep-2016. Pours a slightly hazy hoppy with a tan head. Aroma is sour and fruity. Taste is pretty the same, very sour, though, with lots of bretts and hoppy bitter. Interesting.
