Bottle, 2010 version. Black with a tan head that fades to a coat but laces well. Aroma of dark sugars, chocolate, licorice, grass. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Sweet with burnt sugars, licorice, vanilla, chocolate, some grassy and herbal hop bitterness. Holds the alcohol pretty well - it’s not fumey and there’s no finishing burn - although it’s rich and warming. The big sweetness is kept under some semblance of control by the bitterness, but there’s no great depth to the black malts. Good. Zenwolf (269) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - APR 21, 2011

One year of age may made it a bit mellower, but still deep and balanced. Will keep the score.

Very dark color, close to black, but with dark tobacco shades on the side; very small head.
Aroma of roasted malt and coffee, with an interesting leather wrapping, and some wood.
Strong body, the mouthfeel is a bit oily, and the carbonation is quite low; perfect blend of chocolate, caramel, roasted malts, supported by the sweetness level that I like, with a balanced bitter final; some traces of tobacco, liquorice, alcohol, roasted nuts.
A great beer!
Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours pitch black with a small beige head. Hard roast malt aroma, sweet dried fruit, a little tar and manure (meant as something positive!) Rich body, low carbonation, sweet hard roast, dark dried fruits, wood, vanilla and tar. Very subdued bitterness. 080411 Ungstrup (37640) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - APR 8, 2011
