Unlike typical porters, our Baltic Porter is brewed in the traditional style as a bottom-fermenting lager. The result is a luxuriously round, but robust, black beer with a mild bitterness. A special blend of roasted malts provides this porter with flavors and aromas of chocolate and coffee, and you’ll enjoy it’s subtle hints of cherry-smoked malt.

Oh my god! These Chocodiles, Francine. Oh my god, these Chocodiles, Oh my God. Is pretty much what comes to mind when I drink this beer, but change chocodiles to Porter Baltique, and Francine to Les Trois Mousquettaires. . . .doesn’t really have the same kind of flow, but i’m sure you get the picture. This beer is epic. Pours thick and dark, pretty much motor oil. The aroma is really good, well made coffee, chocolate, something sour....black currents? molasses, awesomeness. The flavour is equally as awesome, coffee, chocolate, raisins, red wine, cherries, black currants, more chocolate and anise in the finish. Flippin fantastic.

This was good. Lots of dried fruit, chocolate and brown sugar in the aroma with a bit of a herbal/spicy note. It is quite sweet and quite boozy. I split the 750ml bottle with a friend and would happily have drunk another.

750ml bottle Well...this is probably one of my favourite porter/stouts I’ve yet had. It’s a beautiful beer in a beautiful bottle. Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma is earthy and hoppy with a lot of warm chocolate in there. In the mouth it’s silky and rich...chocolate, hops, earth, dirt, roasted malt sweetness. A little bit of alcohol but it’s in the backbone. Everything in it’s right place. "Like bathing in honey."

2011 Grande Cuvée. Pours a deep, dark brown with a small coffee coloured head. Nose is blackcurrant, cherry, chocolate, and raisin. Simple and subdued, but pleasant. Mouth feel is medium-thin and very dry with good carbonation. Taste-wise, very sweet with roasted malts and dark fruit up front: blackcurrant, cherries, and black grapes; very winy. Underneath lies cherry syrup, black licorice, coffee, burnt toast, dark chocolate, a hint of smoke, and a slight metallic note. Booziness is pleasant, warming and hidden very nicely by the sweetness. Finish is long, dry and nicely bitter. A very delicious dessert brew.

I tried this beer on October 22, 2011 after purchasing from the Yonge/Wellesley LCBO in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a dark brownish-black colour with a thin long lasting tan coloured head. Coffee, smoke, chocolate and figs dominated the aroma. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is smoked wood, chocolate, cherries and hints of chocolate and vanilla.

750 ml bottle from La Barik. Pours a near-black, very dark brown with modest-sized beige head. Aroma is raisin, alcohol, anise and chocolate. Flavour is lots of raisin and licorice with sweet chocolate and some roasty coffeeness. Moderate alcohol warmth in finish. Quite nice.

750ml bottle. Murky dark brown with light brown head. Light chocolate, some coffee, smoke, malts, lots of metal on the aroma and palate. Decent carbonation, some malt, alcohol, smoke, decent finish.

Diogène (1214) - Mirabel, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 22, 2011
On tap. Black with a thin beige head with below average retention. Aroma is very sweet with chocolate, alcohol, raisins, vanilla, caramel and a hint of wood. Flavor is similar, but too sweet to enjoy more than a glass. This was much sweeter than I remembered, I shall try the bottled version to compare. Full body, moderate carbonation, liquorous mouthfeel.
