Decent rounded barleywine, some hops still prevalent in the finish but no show of 101 IBU at this point. Good drinkability.

Eructoblaster (4455) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 15, 2014
On tap at Mondial de la Bière (Montréal, QC). Beautoful cloudy golden body with an average off-white creamy head. Rich, fresh malty/hoppy aroma with caramel, fruity, and flowery hints. Its robust taste carries citrusy, honeyish, and some alcohol notes. Ends with a warming bittersweet finish. Interesting.

dandeman (1103) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 25, 2013
On tap at Festibière de Gatineau. Aroma is floral. Color is pale amber, hazy, with small head and nice lacing. Taste: We’re in strong notes of alcohol with floral hops and fresh herbs. Very hoppy for a barley wine. Also found bubble gum and barley sugar. Hops are surprisingly sticking out the sugar base. A very tasty beer.

Lubiere (14261) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 11, 2013
A hazed orange amber barley wine with almost no head. In aroma, a nice orange pulp with caramel, lemon, treacle and alcohol warmth, barrel wood notes. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with doughy character, green hops, menthol, alcohol warmth, raspy mouthfeel, OK. On tap at Hivernale, Feb. 23 2013.

Boutip (6628) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 5, 2013
Tap (Hivernale): Poured a bright amber color ale with a small foamy head. Aroma of resinous hops is quite powerful with some citrus undertones also noticeable. Taste is a mix between some resinous notes with tropical fruit notes and peach notes with a sweet caramelized sugar finale. Body is about average with low carbonation. Very enjoyable though I can’t say I was able to pick out the bourbon easily since there was so much hops in this beer.

lesifflebiere (1928) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 23, 2013

My Bottom Line:
Citrusy hop resins coat this Barley Wine’s slick caramel sweetness before establishing lengthy bitterness .

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thin ring of foam circles the cloudy amber.
-The finish was quite fruity as well, citrusy and almost cidery.
-The aroma is all hops; a concept otherwise known as ’North American cask syndrome’.
-The herbal nature of the hop signature is sometimes reminiscent of rosemary. Unless that was me developing a hankering for a piece of red meat. ;)
-The amorphic nature of the mouthfeel (very low carbonation) didn’t really help this otherwise aromatic and flavorful American-style Barley Wine. The bottle version will undoubtedly be more refined.

On cask at Hivernale des Brasseurs.
