COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian-inspired brown ale is aged in oak barrels with a flora of acidifying bacterias, then blended with a fresh beer.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2017 Purchased at La Bodega, Oud Bruin is a Barrel-Aged Sour Brown Ale from the Hors Serie crafted by Les Trois Mousquetaires. The aroma of cherries and grapes are noted as you take a whiff. An air of Brettanomyces funkiness is felt upon the nose. An oak feel is sensed in the acidic finish due to the barrel aging. An alcohol content of 7% is noticeable with the sweetness we experience. A fair carbonation brings out the acidic sour quality. Cherries add a tartness to go with the sour. White grapes add a wine-like character to the body and sweetens the take. A rich malt character is present to go with the sharp tart and sour body. Munich malt provides another sweet element to the body. Pilsner malt is noticed with the cherry flavor. Quebec Malt is noticed in the slightly dry finish and picked out along with the funky yeast taste. Caramel seems to be used, but it is not; and the Cara 160 malt brings a caramel like feel to the drink. Perle hops blend very well with the sour qualities of this beer. Mittelfruh hops encapsulates the combination of sour and tart flavors. Brettanomyces yeast is faint, but fully experienced in the finish. Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer. A very ~rare~ combo, hits with the initial sourness (and we're talkin real sour, acidic even), and then you have this chocolate, creamy, hazelnut aftertaste totally more reminiscent of the brown ales. Bod is pretty light, carbo as well. Earthy aroma. Nice beaver brown coloration. It's cool but a bit too skewed on the sour, I'd prefer a more equitable balance between the sour and brown ale vectors.

This is rodenbach vintage level. Red fruit, vinegar acidity, proper carbonation and color. A bit tart. Nice.

Pours a deep reddish brown with a bubbly head that disapparates rather quickly. Aroma is vinegar, balsam wood, mild accrid. Palate is well balanced - lots of balsamic notes, some woody oak components, and a leathery, tobacco bitter funk note. Yum.

Poured from the tap. Dark reddish brown with beige head. Light vinegar, sour, tartness. Quite good.
