(Rating #642)

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2007 11 oz bottle via Malt of the Earth club). Pours a semi-clear copper with an average beige head. Nose is floral hops and lager yeast. This is fairly hoppy for a lager of this style, sort a an earthy/floral hoppiness, some pear, nuttiness, with a grainy finish. Body is light, carbonation moderate. Nice session beer.

Bottle. Thick but relatively porous off-white head on dark amber. Moderate roasted malt nose. Cookies and hints of caramel. Perhaps a trace of vanilla. I find this beer a pleasant surprise in the mixed pack. Flavour is just like the aroma. A nice biscuity, toffee, roasted malt beer. Not as malty as Brooklyn but a tasty drinkable beer. I think it is well done.

Tap at Vices et Versa. Deep amber beer, thick head. Aroma is heavily caramelized with a bit of brown sugar, burnt sugar and light treacle. It doesn’t actaully come across overly sweet but it is fairly complex. A sweet, malty fish with a light spicy hoppiness in back. Pretty nice brew really.

Poured out a large off white cap of moderate thickness, simmers to light coverage, small amounts of slippery lacing, clear copper brew. Big, rich roasted aromas are everywhere, I was surprised at the strength of this brew upfront. Caramel and biscuit, dark fruit nose that reminds me of fruit leather... is there any hops at all to be found? Very rich flavours of roasted malts, caramel and biscuit, that tang of the fruit is more available to enjoy than when cold, dark fruit (maybe those black plums), background candy. Weak bitterness comes through at the back of the sip, vanishes and then resurrects itself early in the after taste. Finishes quite nice. I’d drink this again.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2006 Pours a reddish copper color with a medium offwhite head. Good aroma of caramel and toasted malt. The flavor is very malt-oriented, some caramel, some toasted and some smoked, interesting. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2008 Rating for the new Rousse version: A generous toastiness in the nose is joined by round caramel once tasted, a maltiness balanced out by earthy hoppiness and its decent bitterness. The end result is able-bodied, drinkable and quite flavorful for what is supposed to be their mass marketed "Rousse" offering. Should give Boréale Rousse a fun for its money in the party-going crowd, if proper marketing is done.

Bottle. Red color, medium head. Aromas of malts, a bit of yeast and grain. Some ffarmhouse like character, in addition to a dominant malt profile. Quite a decent beer.

Fiery-foxy, deep copper colour with a dense, creamy, cream-coloured head that proves quite stable. Very chocolatey aroma; chocolate "truffles" with cacaopowder, bark- or rootspices, sweetish, toffee. Bitter first impression with background toffee and roasted chocolate again. Some amber/roasted malts obvious. Very carbonated MF, rather light body, some slickness. Watery finish. I like the onset of this beer very much - a more-bitter-than-usual Vienna. Unfortunately, the bitterness fades quickly away, revealing more and more the inherent emptiness. Still - not bad. Thanks for the collecting job, I&I
