alafito (334) - tijuana, MEXICO - MAY 21, 2006
Bottle. a pretty Red-Orange Amber color with a mostly diminishing head and a medium body with cloudy clarity. A moderate aroma of straw, resin, nuts and molasses. Fruits present grapes and apricots. The yeast is light and soapy. It finishes lightly sweet and salty and leaves a chalky sensation in the tounge.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color lager with a medium slightly off-white foamy head with better then average retention. Aroma of caramel malt is pretty enticing. Taste of sweet caramel malt is not complex but really well done and quite enjoyable. Body is about average and nice level of carbonation. This brewery is really improving in the last couple of months and can’t wait to try some of their other beers.

Bottle. Copper - brown color. A bit cloudy. Pretty good. Full flavor, but not super strong. A good drinking beer.

Very malty aroma, a little cream. Not bad, a good balance in flavor, with just a little funk in the finish. Sits kind of weird, but decent enough.

Bottle. Clear dark brown red with a thin white head. Below average retention and good lacing. Aroma is toasted malt, nuts and caramel. Flavor is toasted malt, wood, caramel, nuts and hops. Thin to medium body.

Very little head, boring amber-orange body. This seems to be this brewer’s thing, and if that’s what they’re after, ugly looking beers, then more power to them. Aroma of bready malts, very simple. Taste is a nice mix of malt with a bitter finish. Some of these "red" beers end up very watery, but this one again has a great taste. Crappy looking beers with poor aroma but great taste - that’s this brewer for you.

Appearance: Pours a nice amber-red body, kind of like cherry wood with a generous 3-finger head. Smell: Malt, caramel (burnt?) with some toffee and a tiny bit sweet. Very good aroma! Taste: Smooth and malty but not too much. Bitterness is present near the end but that’s pretty much it. A bit of a let down after a very nice aroma. Mouthfeel: Slightly better, has a dry feel to it. Some not-overly coarse malt with a certain spicy finish. Some caramel buried in there with a touch of bitterness.

Pours a dark caramel colour. The head is small and short lived. Aroma is simple, yet nice. Caramel, nuts and a touch of yeast. It tastes very nutty with biscuit up front as well. It tastes like a good liquid scone. Caramel, roasted malt and a hint of spice from the hops. Mouth feel is pleasant. Like a lagered ESB.Decent.
